LECTURE BY FOREIGN LECTURER MATTHEW WIZINSKI (USA) FOR DESIGNERS

On June 11, 2025, students and lecturers of the Faculty of Design had the opportunity to join the lecture by Matthew Wizinsky, designer, researcher, author of the book “Design After Capitalism” (MIT Press, 2022). The lecture was held with the support of the partner of the Faculty of Design of the KNUTD Academy DOMUS (Milan, Italy) as part of the Disrupting Patterns Talk lecture series.

Matthew Wizinsky is an Associate Professor of the Department of Urban Technologies at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan (USA), deputy editor-in-chief of the journal “Visible Language”, dedicated to design issues, and a doctoral researcher in the field of transitional design at Carnegie Mellon University (USA).

Matthew Wysinski’s lecture focused on how design can help reorient social practices towards localized, collaborative systems that meet collective needs. His research includes developing innovative tools and methods for UX and service design, and promoting peer-to-peer production as a desirable and culturally responsible alternative to dominant economic models.

The lecture was attended by students of the educational programs "Graphic Design", "Multimedia Design", "Environmental Design", "Fashion Design", "Design (by type)" of the bachelor's and master's levels, as well as postgraduate students of the EP “Design” and teachers of the Faculty of Design, because the information presented by the lecturer concerned inclusivity and accessibility in all areas of human life. The lecturer proposed effective models for implementing design approaches to improve the quality of people's lives and ease of use.

M. Vyzinski's creative practice and research include interdisciplinary collaborations in architecture, social sciences, digital humanities, and public health. His research, scholarship, and creative work has been recognized by many organizations and sponsors, including support from the Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Humanities Without Walls Consortium, the MAC AIDS Foundation, and others.

At the end of the lecture, everyone was able to ask the lecturer questions and receive answers.

Thank you to our partners from the DOMUS Academy for the opportunity to join the lecture!
