SHAPING THE FUTURE TOGETHER: FACULTY OF CHEMICAL AND BIOPHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIES IN DIALOGUE WITH YOUNG PEOPLE

The Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies continues to implement career guidance activities actively, supporting young people and shaping the country’s future scientific and technological potential. The academic staff and students of the Faculty meet with high school and college students, organise open days, master classes, excursions to laboratories, and provide information support for admission to chemical and pharmaceutical specialities: G1 Chemical Technology and Engineering, G2 Environmental Protection Technologies, G21 Biotechnology and Bioengineering, I8 Pharmacy (by specialities).

Particular attention is paid to live communication with young people during events, where students have the opportunity to interact directly with teachers, ask questions, and learn about the advantages of studying at the Faculty, including employment prospects and opportunities for scientific and professional development. The Faculty aims not only to spark young people’s interest in science but also to give them a clear understanding of the knowledge and skills they will gain by choosing their own educational trajectory. Career guidance activities help build a bridge between the modern educational process and future professional growth.

Recently, Ivan Gryshchenko, Rector of the University, signed a cooperation agreement with the distance learning school “Optima” in a solemn ceremony. This step opens up new prospects for joint educational, research and training activities. As part of the cooperation, the parties plan to implement joint projects, organise career guidance events, hold open lectures, training, and research initiatives. Representatives of the school, including Robert Waischla, co-founder of the school, and Andrii Marchenko, Development Director, were introduced to the University and its scientific laboratories within the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies. Tetiana Derkach, Dean of the Faculty, presented the achievements of the Faculty in educational and research activities, noting that school students will have the opportunity to participate in university events, visit laboratories, and learn about the curricula and scientific achievements. Viktoriia Plavan, Head of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving, spoke about the educational programmes implemented at the Department and stressed that this Agreement is an essential step towards integrating school and higher education. Iryna Liashok, Associate Professor, who actively participated in the implementation of this event, added that cooperation with the University motivates students to study and enables them better to understand the requirements of the modern educational environment. It is expected that the first joint initiatives will be implemented at the beginning of the new academic year.

More than 80 schools and colleges were covered by the Faculty’s career guidance activities, including study tours, master classes, and laboratory work.

In particular, the practical intensives “KyivOpenLab-2025” conducted by the academic staff of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy were interesting and informative, during which the participants developed solid medicines, studied their pharmaceutical and technological characteristics and manufactured various cosmetic products, including hydrogel patches, scented bath bombs, creams, etc. In particular, the Department hosted students from the Volodymyr Monomakh Boryspil Lyceum “Perspective” of Boryspil City of the Kyiv Region.

Vladyslav Strashnyi, Head of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy, Olha Nikitina, Associate Professor,  and Anastasiia Begday, Researcher at the scientific laboratory of molecular pharmacology, chemogenomics and biogerontology, visited Kyiv City Medical Specialist College. During the meeting, the academic staff informed the college students about the benefits of studying at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, specifically at the Department of Industrial Engineering. The modern training and research laboratories of the Department, equipped with unique analytical and technological equipment, were demonstrated in a video format. During their studies, students learned about the opportunities for internships at leading chemical and pharmaceutical companies, as well as the prospects for further employment available to university graduates.

The Department of Industrial Pharmacy was also visited by students from the P.I. Gavrosy Kyiv Professional Medical College and pupils from Lyceum № 181 in the Pechersk district of Kyiv. They were given study tours of the educational and research laboratories of the Department, presentations of educational and professional programmes implemented at the Department, as well as practical master classes, during which the guests not only observed the process, but also actively participated in the development of solid dosage forms and studies of their pharmaco-technological parameters under the guidance of the academic staff.

The guests of the Department of Chemical Technology and Resource Saving were senior pupils of  Lyceum № 240 “Sotsium” of Kyiv. Iryna Makeyeva, Associate Professor, held an open chemistry lesson on the topic “Properties of electrolyte solutions”. Accompanied by their teachers, Raisa Sergunina and Irina Balmasova, the students were introduced to the Department’s laboratories and visited the 3D Printing Centre. Viktoria Plavan, Head of the Department, informed the students about the educational programmes and specialities of the Department, as well as the opportunities for admission, training, and further employment.

To promote chemical technologies and environmental engineering, the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving organised a series of open chemistry lessons for students in grades 7, 9, 10, and 11 at School № 70 in Kyiv. The pupils were convinced that chemistry can be interesting, informative, and exciting if taught with a sense of humour and a smile, as the teachers of the Department, Olena Kryukova, Oksana Butenko, and Iryna Liashok, skilfully did.

The Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur also actively conducted career guidance work among schoolchildren. These events enabled pupils to participate in master classes in biology and chemistry in the Department’s laboratories, engage in virtual laboratory work in biology, and interact with Olena Mokrousova, the Department’s Head, and teachers from lyceums, schools, and via video platforms. The career guidance activities covered educational institutions in Kyiv (School № 309, School № 305), Voznesensk (Taras Shevchenko Lyceum, Insight Lyceum, Lyceums № 8 and № 10), Mykolaiv (Schools № 3, 31, 36; Lyceum № 53), Vinnytsia (Municipal Institution Vinnytsia Lyceum №  9), Myronivka (Myronivka Academic Lyceum named after Taras Shevchenko), Nerivtsi (Municipal Institution Vinnytsia Lyceum № 10), Nadiia (Municipal Institution Vinnytsia Lyceum № 11), and Nadiia (Municipal Institution Vinnytsia Lyceum № 12). Taras Shevchenko), Nemyriv (Lyceum № 1 of Nemyriv named after M.D. Leontovych).

The Faculty is open to cooperation with schools, colleges, and youth initiatives, as only through a joint effort can we create the conditions for the development of a new generation of specialists capable of meeting the challenges of modern science and industry.

Welcome to studying at the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design!
