On 27 June 2025, a performance exam was held to assess the acting skills of third-year students majoring in 026 Performing Arts (group BAMP1-22) at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. The event was not just a summary of the semester, but a deep exploration of the nature of theatre, in which thought becomes an event and action becomes philosophical reflection.
This time, students worked with intellectual theatre material – a genre that requires actors to have not only technical skills, but also depth of thought and the ability to perceive images, dialogue and conflict not only as stage reality, but as a philosophical field of tension.
Excerpts from iconic plays of 20th-century modernist and postmodern theatre, such as Tennessee Williams' The Rose Tattoo, Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, Bertolt Brecht's The Threepenny Opera, Albert Camus' The Misunderstanding, and many others, formed the basis for the auditions. Each scene was an intellectual dialogue with the author, the time, and the audience. and many others, formed the basis for the auditions. Each scene was an intellectual dialogue with the author, the time and the audience. The dramaturgy presented successfully attempted to reveal the themes of love, envy, jealousy, excessive enthusiasm, pain, loss and passions through absurdity and irony.
The students not only demonstrated their acting skills — they revealed the inner world of the characters, captured subtle psychological and worldview nuances, and felt the nature of dramatic conflict as an ethical choice. We are very grateful to them for their fruitful work, to their teachers (artistic director V.V. Dovzhenko, teacher A.V. Atamanyuk) for their creative inspiration and generous efforts, as well as to everyone who attended the performance. There is more to come!
