The scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Philology and Translation of KNUTD implements the International programme of academic credit mobility for the applicants of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD) and Baku Slavic University (BSU, Azerbaijan). In the frame of the programmes “The Ukrainian and English Language Practice: Exploring Ukraine” and “The English Language Practice: Exploring Azerbaijan”, in May 2025, Svitlana Dvorianchykova, PhD in Philology, Assistant Professor, gave an integrated lecture on the topic "You are kindly invited by Ukraine" for BSU applicants, and a senior lecturer of the Department of Translation and Slavic Languages, the director of Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Center of BSU Lesia Kerimova represented a lecture “Novruz is a spring holiday” for the applicants of the Institute of Law and Modern Technologies, KNUTD. The events were moderated by Yelizaveta Isakova, the Head of the Department of Philology and Translation of KNUTD, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor and Svitlana Dvorianchykova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor.
Svitlana Dvorіanchykova presented general information about the origin of our country, Ukrainian as the state language, as well as the flag, coat of arms, and glory to BSU students, whose future professional activities will be related to the Ukrainian language and Ukraine. The applicants learned details about the geographical location of Ukraine and its climatic conditions, the leading sectors of the Ukrainian economy, and the most famous landmarks of our country.
The lecturer spoke about Ukraine's participation in international organizations, the good-neighborly policy and the European vector of our country's development, and the heroic struggle of Ukrainians for their freedom and independence.
The applicants got acquainted with Ukrainian megacities, interesting facts about Kiev, Kharkiv, Odesa and Dnipro. Azerbaijani students studied the Dnipro river photos, the largest navigable river in Ukraine, a symbol of Ukraine’s irresistibility and glory. The audience was also interested in the largest and most powerful aircraft in the world – An-225. Photos of St. Sophiia Cathedral, the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the historic center of Lviv, Kharkiv Square of Freedom did not leave anyone indifferent. The students had the opportunity to communicate in Ukrainian and asked numerous questions about Ukraine and Ukrainians, to which the lecturer provided detailed answers.
Lesia Kerimova told the students of KNUTD about the national Azerbaijani traditions of Novruz celebration. This holiday symbolizes the renewal of nature and life extension. The lecturer underlined that the holiday of Novruz was included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO as a symbol of wisdom, hope and tolerance. During the celebration, the Azerbaijani housewives put sprouted wheat grain and painted egg on the table, and the whole family jumps over a bonfire for cleaning and protecting throughout the year. Pilaf, cooked according to traditional recipes, and delicious Azerbaijani sweets are considered unchanging dishes of the festive table.
The applicants noted that the traditions of Azerbaijani and Ukrainian holidays are intertwined, which is an evidence of the friendship between Ukrainian and Azerbaijani peoples and mutual enrichment of the two cultures.
The both lecturers suggested that the applicants take thematic tests to check the level of knowledge and material learned.
The international programme of academic credit mobility continues. In the next 2025-2026 academic year, new interesting lectures and independent work await the applicants of KNUTD and BSU. We sincerely thank the colleagues and students of Baku Slavic University for trust and cooperation!
