Vladyslava Skidan, Head of the Department of Information and Computer Technologies (ICT) at the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, and Antonina Volivach, Associate Professor of the Department, joined a training course organized by the State Organization “Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation” (UKRNOIVI) in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
The training was conducted as part of the international project “Empowering Women in Innovation and Startups”, aimed at supporting women engaged in inventive and innovative activities.
The goal of the program is to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in the legal protection and commercialization of creative and scientific-technical outputs. Special attention was given to developing competencies in branding, marketing, pitching, and attracting investment.
The training took place in the form of online sessions on the Zoom platform on June 24, 26, July 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, and 17, 2025. The total duration of the course was 30 academic hours (1 ECTS credit), of which 24 hours were allocated to classroom sessions and 6 hours to independent work.
The training program included interactive tasks and practical modules, in particular on building business identity, creating effective presentations, and developing startups.
The course was moderated by Anna Tkachuk, a Category 1 intellectual property professional from the Training, Retraining, and Advanced Training Division of the Intellectual Property Academy Department of the Ukrainian National Academy of Intellectual Property.
On June 24, 2025, the first session of the training course took place. The event began with welcoming remarks by Olena Orlіuk, Director of UKRNOIVI, Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, and Hasan Kleib, Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Regional and National Development Sector.
Participants were introduced to the first topic of the course, “Introduction to the Basics of Intellectual Property”. Speaker Olha Kulynich, head of the Intellectual Property Academy department at UKRNOIVI, explained in detail the key concepts, objects, and subjects of intellectual property rights, as well as their rights. Next, Anna Tkachuk spoke on the topic “How to ensure legal protection of the results of intellectual and creative activity: national and international approaches”, where she focused on the peculiarities of legal protection in different jurisdictions and the importance of international cooperation in intellectual property.
On June 26, 2025, Yuliana Zukh-Kipriyanova, a professional in innovation activities at the Network Development Division of Technology and Innovation Support Centers of the Innovation Development Department of UKRNOIVI, acted as moderator and lecturer for the second session of the training course on the topic “Legal Protection of Industrial Property Objects: the procedure for filing an application and obtaining a patent”. A step-by-step algorithm for preparing and filing applications for inventions and utility models in Ukraine was discussed. The lecture also highlighted the specifics of preparing and filing applications for industrial designs in Ukraine.
On July 1, 2025, the third session of the training course was devoted to the topic “RsP and TRIZ Methods”. The speaker was Christoph Dobruskin, Senior Functional Development Engineer at Phillips. The lecture covered creative tools for innovators: practical methods for generating ideas and solving problems; RsP and TRIZ methodologies: principles, advantages, and limitations of application; challenges in applying creative techniques: difficulties and ways to overcome them.
On July 3, 2025, the fourth session of the training course was held. It was dedicated to the topic “From idea to market: commercialization of intellectual property”. The speaker was Olha Khmara, a Category 1 intellectual property professional in the Innovative Ecosystem Development Division of the Innovation Development Department, who focused on the basics of commercializing intellectual property and building a strategy for commercializing intellectual property for entrepreneurs.
On July 8, 2025, Olena Lytvynenko, a leading intellectual property professional in the Innovative Ecosystem Development Division of the Innovation Development Department at UKRNOIVI, spoke at the fifth session of the training course on the topic “From Idea to Market: Commercialization of Intellectual Property Objects”. The lecture covered business models for inventors: opportunities for commercializing intellectual property; developing a business plan: an effective strategy for intellectual property; market analysis and market entry: product launch and sales strategy.
On July 10, 2025, the sixth session of the training course was devoted to the topic of “Online Marketing and Branding”. The speaker of the first lecture, “Basics of Branding: Brand Protection and Promotion through Trademarks”, was Hanna Palagitska, managing partner of the Hanna Palagitska Law Firm. The speaker for the second and third lectures was Alina Bazhenova, founder of the full-cycle branding agency Futurist Agency, who addressed the issue of digital marketing for startups: tools, platforms, and strategies for development, and how women entrepreneurs can stand out in a competitive market.
On July 15, 2025, at the seventh session of the training course dedicated to the topic “Opportunities for attracting finance for women entrepreneurs”. The session was moderated by Marharyta Marini, Intellectual Property Commercialization Specialist, Intellectual Property and Innovation Ecosystems Sector, Intellectual Property Department for Innovators (IPID), Intellectual Property Commercialization Division, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), who conducted an interactive survey on examples of financing, grants, and opportunities for attracting finance. The lecture was continued by speaker Tim Jun, founder and CEO of the international crowdfunding company Starget, with lectures on “The basics of crowdfunding: how to attract funding for your own business” and “Strategic cooperation: partnering with other innovators for business development”. The seventh session of the training course was concluded by speaker Halyna Shtogrin, head of the grant coordination department of the innovation development department at UKRNOIVI, with a lecture on “Grant programs and accelerators: navigating government funding and support programs”.
On July 17, 2025, at the final eighth session of the training course dedicated to the topic “Women Innovators and Entrepreneurs: Success Stories and Pitching Secrets”, the participants were addressed by speaker Kyun-e Cha, CEO of ORBITN Co., Ltd., Director of the Korean Women Inventors Association, gave a lecture entitled “Women Innovators and Entrepreneurs: Examples of Successful Project Implementation and Key Aspects of Presenting Innovative Ideas”. The next topic of the lecture was “Pitching: How to Effectively Present a Business Idea to Investors and Stakeholders”, which was presented by speaker Louis Forman, founder and CEO of Enventys, a company that designs, manufactures, and launches innovative products.
Upon completing the training and successfully meeting all program requirements, the participants received certificates along with supplementary documents confirming their professional development and readiness to apply the newly acquired skills and competencies in practical projects.
