MEETING WITH THE OUTSTANDING HISTORIAN VLODYMYR SERHIYCHUK

September 5, 2025 in An extremely important and moving event took place at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Culture and Creative Industries of the KNUTD. The prominent Ukrainian historian, Professor Volodymyr SERHIYCHUK met with the administration of the institute and presented his book "Hungry, Barefoot and Bloated... 1932–1933" , dedicated to the tragic events of the Holodomor and the fate of Ukrainian children in those terrible years.

It is especially symbolic that the artistic design and illustrations for this book were created by a student of KNUTD – his granddaughter, the talented artist Oleksandra SERHIYCHUK (group BCM-1-24, Department of Digital Art ) . Her drawings became an emotional addition to the historical materials, visually recreating the atmosphere of the era and conveying the pain and tragedy of the Ukrainian people.

Ms. Lidia MAKARENKO , Director of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, emphasized the importance of this meeting for the university community and noted that the cooperation of generations in this format is an example of the unity of science, art and family values. She thanked Volodymyr Ivanovich for the generous gift, and student Oleksandra for her creative contribution, which enhances the power of the book's influence on the reader.

The pages of the publication bring to life the memory of millions of innocent victims, and at the same time, an important reminder of the price of our freedom and independence.

Such meetings inspire students and teachers, as they demonstrate how historical truth can be preserved, passing it on to new generations through art, creativity, and one's own civic stance.

We express our sincere gratitude to Volodymyr SERHIYCHUK for the gift and preservation of historical memory, and we are also proud of our student Oleksandra SERHIYCHUK, who made a significant contribution to this important work with her creativity!

We hope for further fruitful cooperation.
