On August 21, 2025, at the meetings of the one-time specialized academic councils PhD9947 and PhD9959 at the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design, the defense of the dissertations of Volodymyr Kuzmenko on the topic "Design of respiratory protection products: innovative technologies, modern materials" and Yana Mamchenko on the topic "Design of military clothing for pilots: evolution, typologies, design practices" for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 02 "Culture and Art" in the specialty 022 "Design". The scientific supervisor of the dissertations is the laureate of the National Prize of Ukraine named after Borys Paton, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Nataliia Ostapenko.
The chairperson of the one-time specialized academic councils was Tetyana Krotova, Doctor of Art History, Professor. The opponents of the mentioned dissertations were leading scientists and highly qualified specialists in the field of art history and design - Tetyana Kara-Vasyl'eva, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Fine and Decorative and Applied Arts of the Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnology named after M.T. Rylsky, and Inna Yakovets, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Head of the Department of Design of the Cherkasy State Technological University. The reviewers were experienced scientists with high professionalism – Olha Yezhova, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Tetyana Struminska, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Danylo Kosenko, Candidate of Art History, Associate Professor. Their thorough expert opinions, valuable comments, and recommendations ensured the objectivity of the assessment, contributed to the high quality of the scientific discussion, and emphasized the significance of the research conducted.
Members of the one-time specialized academic councils noted that the dissertations are distinguished by their relevance, scientific novelty, theoretical and practical basis, and the validity of the results. The works fully comply with the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine on the award of the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy and the requirements for the design of dissertations. Following the results of open voting by members of the one-time specialized academic councils, unanimous decisions were made to award the dissertations the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
