As part of the educational process and cultural and educational activities, students of the Department of Management and Smart Innovations of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design visited the KNUTD Embroidery Museum.
Тhe Museum of Embroidery, created in 2023, has become a real pearl of the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design. It is not just an exhibition hall, but a unique space where the past and the present are combined. Here you can see rare artifacts, ancient household items, and authentic embroidered products that convey the spirituality, hard work, and uniqueness of the Ukrainian people. The museum also features modern graduation works by students that recreate ancient embroidery techniques while opening a new vision of this art.
The students were particularly interested in the exhibition, which introduced the wealth of regional embroidery techniques in Ukraine. Each region has its own tradition, reflecting local culture and aesthetics:
Poltava region is famous for its delicate white embroidery with smoothness and cutwork.
Podillia – bright geometric ornaments, made with a cross stitch using red and black colors.
Volhynia and Polissya – the predominance of plant motifs, made with a stem stitch.
Hutsulshchyna and Pokuttya – complex multi-colored ornaments with a combination of geometric and plant symbols.
Bukovina – lush compositions with a combination of embroidery and beads.
Slobozhanshchina – embroidery “with a low point”, which creates the effect of a double-sided pattern.
This variety of techniques testifies to the richness of Ukrainian culture, which is currently being actively researched and revived.
Students of the Department of Management and Smart Innovations visited the museum and immersed themselves in the symbolism of embroidered ornaments that preserve the codes of historical memory and cultural identity.
Young people learned about the peculiarities of ornaments from different regions of Ukraine, the meaning of symbols and amulets, as well as their modern reinterpretation in the field of design and fashion.
The teachers emphasized that the uniqueness of the museum lies not only in its rich collection, but also in its role in the educational process. It has become a platform where students can combine academic knowledge with the living experience of getting to know the national culture, which contributes to the upbringing of values and the development of creative thinking.
The young people actively participated in the dialogue with the tour guides, were interested in the features of ancient technologies and the possibilities of their application in modern creative industries. For many students, this meeting was an opportunity to discover new meanings in embroidery - from symbolic meaning to inspiration for future projects.
The uniqueness of the KNUTD Museum of Embroidery lies in the fact that it preserves the heritage of our ancestors and at the same time demonstrates modern interpretations of Ukrainian art, making it alive, relevant, and close to the younger generation.
Thanks to such events, the Department of Management and Smart Innovations combines educational training with the spiritual and cultural development of students, opening up new opportunities for them to learn about the world and national values.
