FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS FROM THE FACULTY OF ARTS AND FASHION GET TO KNOW THE UNIVERSITY

Starting university is always full of new experiences, discoveries, and acquaintances. For first-year students of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, this period was especially significant – they took their first steps into the large student family. From the very first days of the academic year, they were welcomed with a warm atmosphere, attention, and support from teachers and curators, who helped them immerse themselves in university life and feel its unique spirit.

Academic group curators Tetiana Dzykovych, Inna Kosyak, Alona Tykhomirova, and Yana Mamchenko, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion, Natalia Ostapenko, organized and conducted inspiring excursions for first-year students majoring in G15 Consumer Industry Technologies, C4 Psychology, and A5 Vocational Education (Consumer Industry Product Technology). The students enjoyed visiting the University’s most iconic locations.

The Embroidery Museum (Room 1-0115) made a particularly strong impression with its exhibition. The students were warmly welcomed by Liudmyla Krekhova, head of the collection storage department, who gave an interesting, professional, and inspiring talk about Ukrainian customs, rituals, and holidays, the peculiarities of Ukrainian embroidery, and emphasized the uniqueness of the technique used to make Krolevets rushnyks (embroidered towels) and the traditions associated with the Embroidery Museum in particular. Each section and exhibit of the museum was a real discovery, as each piece embodies the diversity and individuality of Ukrainian cultural heritage. Ms. Krekhova provided a compelling account of traditional Ukrainian rituals, such as weddings, christenings, and memorial services, as well as everyday talismans and the meaning of symbols embroidered on towels. Students also learned about the historical heritage of the Ukrainian people and the decorative and applied arts, which may later serve as creative ideas or inspiration for their own collections and projects.

The next equally interesting location was the Laboratory of the History of Sewing Machine Development (Room 1-0113). Liudmyla Krekhova and Natalia Ostapenko continued the tour, immersing the students in the world of sewing technology and art. They explained that in 2005, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Department of Light Industry Machinery, a laboratory was created at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, showcasing sewing machines and parts manufactured from the 19th century to the present day.

Natalia Valentynivna paid special attention to the well-known pattern-and-veste method of design, patented by the world-renowned Ukrainian fashion designer Mykhailo Voronin, a graduate of the University.

Next, the students visited the Educational and Scientific Laboratory of Sewing Technologies in the Fashion Industry “Softorg” (Room 1-0114).

The Dean noted that the laboratory is equipped with the latest industrial equipment from the Japanese brand “Juki”, thanks to the stakeholder and long-term partner of the University, “Softorg”. The laboratory is designed for practical classes and research work as part of the educational process. The combination of advanced technologies and practical application of acquired knowledge facilitates research projects, coursework, and qualification work.

At the end of the tour, the students visited the Mykhailo Voronin Museum Hall (Room 1-0130). They learned about the life story of a legendary figure – the outstanding Ukrainian fashion designer and manufacturer of classic men’s clothing, Mykhailo Voronin, a 1972 graduate of the University. The Dean also reminded attendees of the size-500 tuxedo made by Voronin, which was entered into the Guinness Book of Records.

After an eventful tour, the inspired students exchanged positive impressions and shared creative plans for the future.

We wish the first-year students an exciting student life full of creative events, professional growth, and the fulfillment of all their dreams!
