THE ACADEMIC YEAR FOR STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FASHION AND STYLE BEGAN WITH A VISIT TO A MODERN SEWING ENTERPRISE

In early September, under the guidance of Associate Professor Halyna Oliinyk from the Department of Fashion and Style, within the elective course “Fundamentals of Designing Products for Special/Military Purposes”, and with the participation of members of the scientific club “Creation of New Types of Special, Industrial, and Uniform Clothing with Predicted Characteristics”, a study visit was organized for students under the educational programs “Modeling, Design, and Artistic Decoration of Light Industry Products” and “Design and Technologies of Garment Production” to the design and production enterprise SASS Military – a Ukrainian company specializing in research, development, and production of textile products for technical and industrial purposes, particularly specialized protective covers, modern camouflage systems, and anti-drone solutions.

Students were warmly welcomed by the company’s director, Valerii Byrkun, who spoke about the history, development, and specialization of SASS Military. He introduced the product range: mobile anti-detection systems for armored vehicles, cars, base facilities, Starlink satellite terminals, and more – all designed to prevent detection by enemy devices using thermal imaging, ultraviolet and infrared radiation, radio waves, and the visible spectrum.

Olena Tolstosheieva, a company designer and graduate of the Department of Fashion and Style (educational program “Modeling, Design, and Artistic Decoration of Light Industry Products”), explained the stages of developing protective covers for various objects, the specific material packages and structural solutions of each product, and the modern technological methods of production. It was emphasized that each product undergoes field testing for strength and effectiveness, and is developed in cooperation with the military. Students were able to familiarize themselves with key products of the company, including the “Luska” camouflage system, anti-thermal covers for Starlink terminals, and special ponchos for personnel.

In addition, students saw all stages of the creation of protective products – from cutting to manufacturing on modern equipment. They learned that a 3D scanner is used in the company to design structures and further develop patterns.

The visit to SASS Military became a valuable practical experience for students. They had the opportunity to learn about advanced technologies in the field of designing products for special and military purposes, observe the entire production cycle, and hear professional insights from company specialists.

The meeting not only reinforced the theoretical knowledge gained during studies but also highlighted the importance of innovation in Ukraine’s textile and defense industries. Such events contribute to the development of professional competence among future specialists and emphasize the significance of their role in advancing national technologies.

We thank SASS Military for their important work!
