CELEBRATION OF WORLD TOURISM DAY AT KYIV NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGIES AND DESIGN

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27, the Department of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Business of the Faculty of Culture and Creative Industries at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design organized a series of events that brought together students, faculty members, and representatives of the tourism and hospitality industries.

Throughout the week, with the active participation of lecturers and students, a variety of educational, scientific, and practical activities were held to demonstrate the diversity and modern trends in the development of the hospitality sector.

A special place in the festive program was reserved for the meeting of the student research club, “Current Directions of Tourism Development and Tourism Studies in Times of Crisis.” During the event, students and teachers explored contemporary trends in the industry during an educational walk through Kyiv's historic center. The key topics discussed included sustainable tourism development, the role of innovation, and the adaptation of tourism businesses to wartime conditions.

As part of the World Tourism Day celebrations, members of the student research club “Cross-Cultural Management and Business Communication Skills in Hospitality” explored the interaction between science, education, and business at the Vita Park Borysfen Hotel.

Future tourism professionals had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the principles of international-level service and experience firsthand that true success in tourism begins with genuine hospitality.

The scientific vector of the celebration was represented by the faculty members of the Department of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Business, who took part in the 17th All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Technologies of Management in Tourism and Hospitality”, dedicated to World Tourism Day. The participants discussed innovative approaches to tourism education, the digital transformation of the industry, and the current challenges of wartime conditions, emphasizing the importance of science and research in shaping the future of the tourism and hospitality sector in Ukraine.

The practical aspect of the celebration was represented by an active tourism workshop led by Leonila Tkachuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Business. Participants had the opportunity to practice setting up tents, organizing camp life during hiking trips, and developing teamwork and leadership skills. The event not only strengthened students’ practical competencies but also fostered a spirit of adventure and cooperation essential for future professionals in the tourism industry.

The week concluded with a vibrant celebration of World Tourism Day at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. The festive concert united students, faculty, and university guests in an atmosphere of creativity, inspiration, and shared passion for tourism. The event became a symbolic culmination of a week filled with educational, scientific, and practical initiatives that showcased the vitality and diversity of modern hospitality education at KNUTD.

The celebration began with a welcome address by Oleksandra Olshanska, Acting Rector of KNUTD, who emphasized the importance of tourism as a field that drives economic development, promotes cultural exchange, and helps shape an open-minded worldview among young people.

The festive program featured student performances, including musical numbers, theatrical sketches, and multimedia presentations that reflected the creative approach of youth to promoting tourism. As part of the event, winners of contests and quests held throughout the week were recognized, and active participants in student research groups, creative projects, and volunteer initiatives were acknowledged for their contributions.

The audience enjoyed vivid performances and took part in interactive themed zones — from an interactive map of Ukraine, where everyone could mark their hometown with a heart, to an improvised “tourist campfire” complete with tea and songs. The festive atmosphere was filled with joy, inspiration, and unity, reminding everyone once again that tourism is not merely a profession, but a true lifestyle that opens new horizons and connects people across cultures.

We sincerely thank everyone who joined the celebration!

Together, we continue to prove that tourism is a lifestyle — a source of inspiration and love for the world.

KNUTD remains a space of dreams, journeys, and creativity, where the spirit of hospitality unites people and opens new horizons!
