From October 6 to 10, 2025, within the framework of the XXX International Review-Competition of Graduation Projects in Architecture, Design, and Art, scientific and methodological seminars were held at Lviv Polytechnic National University for various specialties and specializations in architectural and art education. The seminar on Environmental Design was organized by the Department of Design and Fundamentals of Architecture of Lviv Polytechnic (headed by Doctor of Architecture Svitlana Linda).

The seminar was attended by Danylo Kosenko, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Interior and Furniture Design at KNUTD; Inna Yakovets, Doctor of Arts, Professor (Cherkasy State Technological University); Yulia Tretiak, Doctor of Architecture, Professor (Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture); Iryna Bondarenko, PhD, Professor (Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts); Tetiana Malik, PhD, Professor (Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative-Applied Arts and Design); Tetiana Sprysa (Lviv National Academy of Arts), and other colleagues.

During the seminar, participants discussed the development of educational programs in environmental design amid the renewal of higher education standards in accordance with the new list of specialties and fields of knowledge. A wide range of issues was considered – from the formation of entrance creative competition programs for bachelor’s degrees to the requirements for qualification projects at the bachelor's and master's levels. Special attention was paid to the challenges of developing teaching staff capacity, the preparation of future educators in postgraduate studies, and involving industry professionals in the teaching process. Participants emphasized the importance of continuous cooperation with Subcommittee B2 “Design” of the Scientific and Methodological Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in updating educational standards and voiced several comments and suggestions for the upcoming standards.

A significant event during the seminar was the working visit to the Lviv National Academy of Arts. The Rector of the Academy, Doctor of Arts Vasyl Kosiv, and the First Vice-Rector, PhD, Petro Nahirnyi, acquainted the seminar participants with the Academy’s educational programs, showcased the renovated buildings and material-technical infrastructure: equipped creative workshops, student spaces, and a modern shelter. The guarantor of the “Environmental Design” educational program at LNAA, Tetiana Sprysa, conducted a tour of the Department’s classrooms. Guests familiarized themselves with the methodological collections of student work and attended classes in specialized educational components.

The Faculty of Design at KNUTD sincerely thanks colleagues from Lviv Polytechnic and Lviv National Academy of Arts for excellently organizing the Environmental Design scientific and methodological seminar, and colleagues from other educational institutions across Ukraine for fruitful cooperation in improving the educational programs in the “Design” specialty.
