Recently, there was a great opportunity to meet with high school students and teachers at Kyiv Lyceum No. 240 “Socium”. Using the examples of successful and well-known graduates, Prof. Viktoriia PLAVAN, Head of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving, gave students an overview of the Department’s educational programs and explained how training and employment opportunities are organized up to graduation.
Chemistry lessons for high school students of Lyceum No. 240 “Socium” are conducted by teachers from the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies, together with Chemistry teacher Raisa SERGUNINA have become traditional. The topic of the lesson this time was “Determining the Hardness of Drinking Water”. Under the guidance of Prof. Viktoriia PLAVAN and PhD, Senior Lecturer of the Department Oksana BUTENKO, the students became familiar with the rules of working in a chemical laboratory, learned what water hardness is and which methods can be used to determine it. They also practiced titrating samples of the analyzed water on their own and performed the corresponding calculations based on the results obtained.
Colleagues from the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur also joined the event. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Olena OKHMAT and Assistant Oleksandr KALINICHENKO, the students became familiar with the structure of monocular and binocular microscopes and carried out a laboratory exercise on “Microscopic Methods for Studying Plant and Animal Cells”.
The lesson was held in a light and relaxed atmosphere, and we hope our guests enjoyed it. We believe that the knowledge and practical experience gained will help high school students make the right choice for their future – and we look forward to seeing some of them among our students!
We sincerely thank the administration of Lyceum No. 240 “Socium” and teachers Raisa SERGUNINA and Olha BOHDAN for their fruitful cooperation!
