On 30-31 October 2025, Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design hosted the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “Innovative Materials and Technologies: Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry, Ecology”, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the University’s founding. The Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur and the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving of the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies organised the conference.

Oleksandra Olshanska, Acting Rector of KNUTD, opened the plenary session, welcoming the participants and wishing them productive work.

In her address, Liudmyla Hanushchak-Yefimenko, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, emphasized the departments’ achievements in international cooperation and the active involvement of young researchers in scientific work.

Alla Kasych, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Activity, expressed her hope that the ties between generations would be strengthened, ensuring the country’s continued stability.

In her welcoming speech, Olena Mokrousova, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur, noted that the conference was launched in 2020 in honour of the University’s 90th anniversary. Still, quarantine restrictions at that time necessitated a remote format for the meeting. Today, despite all the limits, more than three years of military action on the territory of Ukraine, power cuts, and constant anxiety, the strength and perseverance were found to demonstrate the powerful force of science and the unstoppable desire for personal communication and the exchange of scientific thoughts, ideas, and achievements.

The Organising Committee informed participants that letters and video greetings had been sent to the conference on the occasion of the conference and the anniversary of the University from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, the biotechnology company Beta (Netherlands), the Ruhr University Bochum (Germany), and Biofarma-Plasma LLC. The conference was supported by sponsors: Farmhim LLC (Mykola Fedko), Poligrin Plant of Biosphere Corporation (Oleh Lozovyi), Pollux LLC (Ruslan Mohilevych), Innovative Company Bioinvest-Agro LLC (Vasyl Kirilov) and others.
Representatives from 10 countries participated in the conference. The participants included delegates from Canada, the Netherlands (Delft University of Technology), Lithuania (Kaunas University of Technology), Germany (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences), Belgium (Antwerp Maritime Academy), Poland (Technical University Lodz, Ogólnopolska Izba Branży Skórzanej), China (Dalian University of Technology, Shandong Academy of Sciences), Bangladesh (Khulna University of Engineering & Technology), Georgia (Georgian National University, Tsereteli State University, Tbilisi State Medical University, National Health Centre), and Armenia (Yerevan State Medical University). In addition, representatives of higher education institutions from the Ukrainian cities of Lviv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Odesa, Uman, Cherkasy, Poltava, Melitopol, Kherson, and Rivne, as well as specialized universities in biotechnology, chemistry, medicine, and economics based in Kyiv, also attended the conference.
Tetiana Derkach, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies, addressed the conference participants with a welcome speech in English, focusing on the most important scientific areas and prospects for the development of the Faculty.

Professor Viktoria Plavan, Head of the Department of Chemical Technology and Resource Saving, also gave a welcoming speech, noting that the history of the University began with the departments of the Faculty of Chemistry and that now the staff of the departments are continuing the traditions of their predecessors, multiplying scientific achievements and educating new generations of specialists in the field of chemical and biopharmaceutical technologies, enriching the educational and scientific space with new achievements.
