SILENCE THAT REMEMBERS

As part of an event dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the commemoration of Byzantine Emperor Basil II Porphyrogenitus, on November 5, 2025, the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (NBUV) hosted a presentation of the author's art exhibition “Silence That Remembers.” The author of the project is Kateryna Dannik, candidate of cultural studies, associate professor of the Department of Performing Arts and Culture at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design.

In her works, the artist explores the themes of physicality, sacredness, and female power, combining painting and sculpture in a unique author's technique. The central place in the exhibition is occupied by paintings depicting pomegranates and motanki, created using concrete fabric—a material that gives the canvases volume and sculptural plasticity. In the artist's work, the pomegranate is a symbol of life, blood, and rebirth, while the motanka is an image of memory, motherhood, and spiritual protection. The gold and dark textured backgrounds that dominate the series give the works a sacred tone, transforming them into unique icons of contemporary culture.

The opening of the exhibition took place in an atmosphere of inspiration and deep interest. Viewers had the opportunity to see how traditional Ukrainian symbols are reinterpreted through contemporary artistic language, while retaining their emotional power and spiritual depth.

The presentation was attended by students majoring in Cultural Studies and Museology. The artist personally told the students about the philosophy behind the project, her artistic technique, and the process of creating paintings. The meeting turned into an inspiring dialogue about art, matter, and the meanings of contemporary culture.
