SUMMARY OF THE VII INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL CONFERENCE "KYIVLVIVPHARMA-2025. PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY IN ENSURING ACTIVE LONGEVITY"

 

 

                                    

On November 20-21, 2025, the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference “KyivLvivPharma-2025. Pharmaceutical technology and pharmacology in ensuring active longevity” was held at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD) in person and using ZOOM platform, as well as remotely at the Lviv Polytechnic National University. This year, the conference had a special symbolic meaning, as it was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the founding of KNUTD. Also, as part of the event, a specialized XIII Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation of the School of Young Scientists of Farmak JSC “Science, innovation and quality in modern pharmaceutical manufacture”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the pharmaceutical company Farmak, was held.

Conference organizers: Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, Lviv Polytechnic National University, L. M. Litvinenko Institute of Physical-Organic & Coal Chemistry of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IPOCC of NASU) and the pharmaceutical company Farmak. The event was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine. The main partner and sponsor of the conference is the pharmaceutical company Farmak, sponsors are Chemlaborreactiv LLC, Alsi LLC and Lem Ukraine LLC. Information partners are the magazine "Pharmaceutical Industry" and APTEKA Weekly.

 

The conference was attended by over 300 participants from different countries, including Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, Sweden, France, Switzerland, the USA, Great Britain, Germany and Italy. The conference became a powerful platform for the exchange of scientific and practical experience between representatives of higher education institutions, research institutions, chemical-pharmaceutical and cosmetic enterprises, as well as for discussing strategic directions for the development of the pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical industry of Ukraine in the context of European integration and the use of scientific achievements in ensuring the defense capability and post-war reconstruction of the state.

During the official opening ceremony of the conference, on November 20, 2025, the following people addressed the participants of the event with welcoming remarks:

- Alla KASYCH Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Activity (Educational Activity) of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, Doctor of Science in Economics, Professor;

- Iryna YAREMCHUK – Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Lviv Polytechnic National University, Doctor of Science in Technical Sciences, Professor;

- Andriy GOY – Technical Director of Farmak JSC, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy of the KNUTD;

- Oleksandr GUDZENKO – Head of the Agency for Methodological and Scientific-Practical Work of the State Enterprise “State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor;

- Tetiana DERKACH – Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor;

- Vladyslav STRASHNYI – Head of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy of KNUTD, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor;

- Vira LUBENETS – Head of the Department of Technology of Biologically Active Substances, Pharmacy and Biotechnology of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor.

 

In their welcoming speeches, the heads of the institutions noted the anniversaries of KNUTD and Farmak, as well as many years of fruitful cooperation, expressed sincere congratulations and wishes for further scientific and industrial achievements. As a sign of congratulations on the anniversary dates, mutual respect and partnership, an exchange of memorable and symbolic gifts took place.

 

 

 

A plenary session “Anti-aging science in ensuring active longevity: new challenges of the 21st century” was held at a high scientific level, during which the following spoke:

- Dr. med Hans GROTH, Chairman, Research Fellow World Demographic & Ageing Forum (WDA Forum), with a presentation on the topic “The power in demography. The critical importance of health”;

- Vira LUBENETS, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Technology of Biologically Active Substances, Pharmacy and Biotechnology of Lviv Polytechnic National University, with a presentation on the topic “Synthesis, research, technology and biotechnology of new biologically active organic compounds, functionalized materials that exhibit a wide range of biological activity and other practically valuable properties”;

- Anastasia KHARINA, European expert on cosmetic product safety, member of NAMs Advisory Group (UK), regulatory affairs specialist at Angel Consulting Srl (Italy), with a presentation on the topic “From in vivo to in vitro: a new era of beauty research in the European Union”;

-  Bogdan BURLAKA, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor of the Department of Drug Technology of Zaporizhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University, with a presentation on the topic “Artificial intelligence in pharmaceutical design: physically based neural models and probabilistic optimization of formulations”;

- Mykola KOROTKIKH, Head of the Laboratory of Chemistry of Stable Carbenes of Institute of Organic Chemistry of NAS of Ukraine, Chief  Researcher of  L.M. Litvinenko Institute of Physical-Organic and Coal Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor, with a presentation on the topic "Biological activity of carbene and phenanthroline complexes of transition metals."

 

The significance and high quality of the reports presented at the plenary session stimulated active discussion among the participants, which allowed not only to develop common expert positions, but also to focus attention on the need to integrate knowledge from different fields to achieve high results in research.

 

After the plenary session, the grand opening of the educational and scientific HUB of the pharmaceutical company FARMAK took place at the KNUTD and the Sector of Pharmaceutical Materials Science and Nanotechnology of the educational and scientific Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology, Chemogenomics and Biogerontology (MPCB Laboratory). The activities of the HUB are aimed at supporting and developing fundamental and applied research in the fields of pharmaceuticals, physical-organic chemistry, biochemistry and pharmaceutical biotechnology at the international level, promoting the implementation of the latest interdisciplinary scientific and technological initiatives.

The sector of pharmaceutical materials science and nanotechnology of the MPCB Laboratory will develop and research innovative functional materials for pharmaceuticals and cosmeceuticals. The main areas of work include the creation of highly soluble polymer composite systems to increase the solubility and bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients, as well as the development of materials based on carbon quantum nanodots and nanofibers for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.            

 

After the grand opening of the laboratory, the conference participants listened to a lecture by the invited speaker Dr inż. Michał STEPULAK, Senior Technical Manager BASF Personal Care / Technical Service Personal Care PL, UA, UK, Nordics on the topic “Uvinul® TS Hydro – the UVA filter in water”. In his report, he described in detail the new UVA filter: its properties, key advantages and effectiveness of use in sunscreen formulas. In addition, he presented information about other sunscreen filters from BASF, which is currently one of the largest manufacturers of UV filters in Europe and offers innovative and high-quality solutions for the development of modern sunscreen products. The lecture was available to the conference participants with simultaneous translation into Ukrainian, which was provided by Olena TEREBYLO, Marketing Manager of BI-A-KHIM LLC, the official distributor of BASF in Ukraine.

 

After the lecture, the conference participants had a tour of the Educational and Scientific Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology, Chemogenomics and Biogerontology of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy of the KNUTD. During the tour, the guests were presented with the modern analytical and technological equipment of the laboratory, as well as innovative research and teaching methods. The Department of Industrial Pharmacy of the KNUTD effectively combines practical orientation with advanced research work, which is the key to high-quality training of specialists for the pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical industries.

 

After the tour, the conference continued with parallel sectional sessions:

1. Innovative pharmaceutics and biotechnology.

2. Modern cosmeceutics.

3. School of young scientists of Farmak JSC.

 

Representatives of higher education institutions, scientific institutions and industrial enterprises from different countries took part in the work of the section "Innovative Pharmaceutics and Biotechnology". The reports concerned the development of modern injectable drugs and drug delivery systems to the lungs, approaches to overcoming resistance in oncological diseases, as well as a discussion of classical and modern methods in pharmaco-technological testing. Considerable attention was paid to the consideration of aspects of the DQ project of pharmaceutical production as a guarantee of safety and high quality of medicines, the use of biogenic surfactants for pharmaceutical technologies, issues of deprescribing and regulation of biosimilars, prospects for the use of biotechnological plant raw materials, quantum chemistry methods and new synthesized derivatives of the natural polyphenol gossypol in the pharmaceutical industry.

In the section "Modern Cosmeceutics", participants reported on advanced approaches to the production and research of cosmetic products in compliance with GMP standards, as well as EU regulatory requirements for cosmetic products. Special attention was paid to the topics of 100% naturalness and safe preservatives for water formulas of cosmetic products, hybrid sunscreen, modern rheology and texture of products, development of specialized lotions for hair loss correction, quantitative in vitro tests and correct marketing anti-aging claims, use and inactivation of preservatives, as well as the search for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents among non-traditional plant sources. Leading experts and managers of cosmetic production companies, in particular LLC "E.D. Cosmetics", LLC "KT Cosmetics", Re[Sens] Ukraine, as well as representatives of Chemlaborreactiv LLC, which specializes in reagents and equipment for various laboratories, and LLC "Engenium Group", which designs enterprises for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and biotechnology industries.

 

As part of the specialized XIII scientific and practical conference with international participation of the School of Young Scientists of Farmak JSC "Science, innovation and quality in modern pharmaceutical manufacture", applicants of the first (bachelor's), second (master's) and third (postgraduate) levels of higher education presented the results of their own research on the validation of production processes, the study of the impurity profile and degradation processes of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), the implementation of instrumental diagnostics, optimization of the production of halal gelatin for soft capsules, the development of amorphous solid dispersion systems and innovative drug delivery systems. Reports were also presented on the physicochemical characteristics and potential application of selenium nanoparticles synthesized using yeast, molecular modeling to explain the "structure-activity" correlation for thiosulfonates, as well as the selection and use of biodegradable polymers for the creation of film systems in the pharmaceutical industry.

 

The first day of the conference ended with a panel discussion “ Quality assurance – the foundation of pharmaceutical manufacturing”. The event was moderated by Volodymyr YAREMENKO, Head of technological laboratory SDF Department of technological development R&D division at Farmak JSC, and Liudmyla USTIANTSEVA, Head of the Quality Management Department of JSC Farmak. The discussion was attended by Liliia ARTEMCHUK, Head of the Pharmaceutical Development Department of PJSC Pharmaceutical Factory “Viola”, Nadiia DILAY, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Head of E.D. Cosmetics LLC, and Liubov SHEVCHUK – Deputy Director KT Cosmetics LLC. The experts focused on discussing issues related to determining the source of responsibility for product quality, as well as analyzing the functionality of the quality management system as a tool for innovation: options were considered when quality systems act as catalysts for technological progress or as restraining factors when launching new products on the market. 

Also, throughout the day, specialized exhibitions and demonstrations of modern laboratory equipment and reagents for chemical and pharmaceutical enterprises, innovative cosmetic products and the latest UV filters were held at the conference. The exhibitions were attended by BI-A-KHIM LLC, Chemlaborreactiv LLC, Alsi LLC, KT Cosmetics LLC, Method LLC (pharmaceutical engineering and consulting) and Lem Ukraine LLC.

  

November 21, the second day of the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference "KyivLvivPharma-2025. Pharmaceutical technology and pharmacology in ensuring active longevity" turned out to be no less eventful, productive and informative than the first.

On this day, the participants' attention was devoted to the reports presented in the section " Science in ensuring the defense capability and post-war reconstruction of the state". The speakers revealed the issues of increasing the reliability of pharmaceutical supply chains in wartime, the introduction of fire-resistant technologies for infrastructure, the development of methods for neutralizing toxic agents, as well as the creation of nanomaterials and modern medical products for providing military personnel. The presented materials convincingly demonstrated the importance of integrating scientific research into practical solutions for ensuring the defense capability and post-war restoration of Ukraine.

 

Also, in parallel with the sectional meeting, on the second day, the specialized XIII scientific and practical conference with international participation of the School of Young Scientists of Farmak JSC continued its work. Within the framework of this day, the participants presented their research both in the format of oral reports and at the poster session, which was held at the KNUTD. All participants of the conference with oral and poster reports were awarded valuable gifts from Farmak JSC.

 

A panel discussion was also held on the second day of the conference. It was moderated by Oleksandr KUKHTENKO, Rector of the National Pharmaceutical University, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor. The participants discussed current issues regarding education in the pharmaceutical industry. The key topics of the discussion were the challenges in recruiting students for the specialty I8 Pharmacy in the conditions of the modern labor market and higher education reforms, as well as new approaches to the professional development of specialists. The scientific and pedagogical staff of KNUTD and Lviv Polytechnic National University, who train specialists in this specialty, as well as specialists of Farmak JSC, took an active part in this discussion.  

 

In total, 300 participants took part in the conference, of which 150 were present in person. As part of the KyivLvivPharma-2025 conference 40 presentation were heard, and 31 at the School of Young Scientists of Farmak JSC. 158 abstracts and 27 scientific articles were submitted for publication, which indicates the active participation and interest of the community in the conference topics.

The scientific and organizational committees express their sincere gratitude to the co-organizers, sponsors and all participants of the conference for fruitful cooperation and exchange of experience. The event became a powerful platform for synergy of education, science and pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

Based on the results of the conference, a collection of conference materials will be published, the electronic version of which will also be posted on the conference website during December 2025.
