NANOMATERIALS AND TECHNOLOGIES: AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ROUNDTABLE OF EXPERTS FROM THE FACULTY OF CHEMICAL AND BIOPHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIES AND THE FACULTY OF ARTS AND FASHION

Recently, an interdisciplinary roundtable on “New Nanomaterials with Antiseptic and Fungicidal Properties for Personal Protection” was held at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. Leading specialists from various departments gathered to discuss technologies for producing materials for personal protective equipment that have significant potential for industrial application.

The roundtable was attended by the Head of the Department of Fashion Technology, Dr. Sc., Prof. Olha Haranina, Dr. Sc., Head of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving, Prof. Viktoriia Plavan, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving, PhD Iryna Liashok, PhD student of the Department of Fashion Technology Anna Vardanian, Associate Professors of the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur Iryna Voloshyna and Lesya Maystrenko.

The discussion focused primarily on advanced methods of obtaining and applying nanomaterials. Prof. Olha Haranina emphasized the requirements for special-purpose textile materials. Associate Professor Iryna Liashok presented modern methods for synthesizing nanoparticles with unique antimicrobial properties and highlighted the possibilities of producing fibrous nanomaterials through electrospinning. Associate Professor Iryna Voloshyna reported on methods for evaluating the effectiveness of nanomaterials against various types of bacteria and fungi.

The key focus of the discussion was the use of nanotechnologies to modify textiles, providing them with long-lasting antiseptic and fungicidal properties. This is critically important for enhancing protection in medical clothing, military equipment, and everyday personal protective equipment. “Creating functional textiles with protective properties is not only a scientific challenge but an urgent necessity today”, noted Viktoriia Plavan.

The results of the roundtable demonstrated the strong research potential of our University in nanotechnology and further confirmed the successful development of the scientific schools of Professors Maria Tsebrenko and Oleh Romankevych.
