From 1 to 5 September 2025, first-year (bachelor) students of the educational and professional programme “Fashion Industry” of the Department of Fashion Technology at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design – Anna Ivanenko and Daria Davydenko, took part in the 2025 Summer Online School of the Technical University of Liberec (Czech Republic) as part of international educational academic mobility (distance learning).
The Summer School 2025 programme was dedicated to “Weft Knitted Fabric Patterning by Means of SDS-ONE APEX Software” and included an intensive week of practical training.
During their studies, the students learned about the work of the knitting lab at the Faculty of Textile Engineering of the Technical University of Liberec (TUL) in detail, where they had the chance to dive into the practical aspects of production. They mastered the SDS-ONE APEX software, which is used to create and model knitted structures, and moved step by step from designing 2D weave samples to modifying and simulating them. Particular attention was paid to working with industrial flat knitting equipment, which made it possible to complete all stages of fabric creation – from programming the fabric structure to a digital model and a real sample. The final stage was the preparation of their own collection of knitted samples, which combined innovative digital technologies and modern methods of textile production. Thus, the students gained unique practical experience that corresponds to current trends in the development of the textile industry and innovative design.
Upon completion of the programme, all the participants received international certificates confirming their acquired competencies and practical skills. The certificates, along with their own knitwear samples made in the laboratory of the TUL according to individual designs, will be sent to each participant’s home address. This will not only be a pleasant memory, but also a valuable professional asset for further development in the light industry.

“This summer school exceeded all our expectations! For the first time, we experienced how theoretical knowledge from the University is transformed into real practical experience at an international level. We were particularly impressed that even in an online format, we were able to work with SDS-ONE APEX software, create our own 2D and 3D projects and immediately see their simulation. But what impressed us most was that our digital designs came to life on modern equipment in the laboratory of the Technical University of Liberec (TUL) – we literally witnessed the birth of a real canvas from our idea.
It is an incredible feeling to realise that very soon our own samples, together with certificates, will arrive at our homes by post. For us, this is not just training, but something much more: confidence in our own abilities, inspiration to create and a desire to develop further in textile technologies. We are delighted with the innovative approach of the teachers, the supportive atmosphere and the opportunity to feel part of an international professional community”, share their impressions Anna Ivanenko and Daria Davydenko.
