The scientific activities of our University’s faculty continue to expand their geographical reach, extending to the most remote corners of the planet. Dr. Olga Iungin, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology, Leather, and Fur, has joined the scientific research efforts within the seasonal stage of the 30th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition.
The work was conducted in collaboration with the National Antarctic Scientific Center (NASC) at the «Akademik Vernadsky» station. Participation in the expedition took place as part of the EXPLORA scientific project, which involves comprehensive studies of the unique Antarctic ecosystem.
The primary objective was the execution of a scientific program aimed at investigating biodiversity and the adaptive mechanisms of organisms under the extreme conditions of the polar region. The findings of these studies are of significant importance for the further development of industrial biotechnologies and for understanding the metabolic potential of Antarctic microorganisms.
We express our gratitude to our colleagues at the National Antarctic Scientific Center for the opportunity to contribute to the work of the Ukrainian polar mission.
