On January 14, 2026, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Design attended an online lecture on “Breaking Patterns in Design” by John Zimmerman, a world-renowned user experience and service designer. The lecture was organized by the DOMUS Academy (Italy), a long-time partner of the Faculty of Design at KNUTD.

The research of John Zimmerman, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University (USA), focuses on human-AI, robot/agent interaction, and AI innovations. During the lecture, Professor John Zimmerman shared his knowledge in UX design, AI-based service and product design.

With over 25 years of experience, he has made significant contributions to a wide range of innovative intelligent systems, from early TV show algorithms to real-time public transportation tools, decision support systems in medicine, and technologies designed to enhance personal safety. Earlier in his career at “Philips”, he invented the scrolling method now widely used on smartphones and tablets.

The professor, author of over 200 scientific publications, explained the basic principles of using AI tools in multimedia design, service design, and showed real projects in this field.

He also shared his experience in developing green startup projects for product and service design based on artificial intelligence at Carnegie Mellon University.

The lecture was attended by teachers of the Faculty of Design, undergraduate students of the educational program "Multimedia Design", "Graphic Design", master's students of the educational program "Design (by type)", as well as postgraduate students of the educational program "Design".

The online lecture was conducted in English, which allowed visitors to improve their practical skills in mastering a foreign language.
