MEETING ON DISCUSSION OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR TRAINING DESIGNERS AT THE FACULTY OF DESIGN

On January 22, 2026, an online meeting was held to discuss educational programs for training designers at the Faculty of Design of KNUTD.

The event was attended by:

Raisa Chernukha, designer, founder of the WannabeDe design school;

Anna Shtonda, director of the Shtonda Design studio;

Olena Holubieva, head of the Ukrainian Animation Association (UAniMA), director of the Chervony Sobaka studio;

Sofia Rozumenko, designer, director of the Chervony Sobaka studio;

Serhii Lavrusenko, photo designer, director of the IMAGE studio photo studio;

Mykhailo Hryhoriev, head of the design team and product designer of the NDA company;

Roman Shedlovskyi, web designer, master of design;

Nataliia Skliarenko, doctor of arts, professor of the Department of Architecture and Design of the Lutsk National Technical University;

Kateryna Critchlow, designer, visiting lecturer at Birmingham City University (Great Britain);

Oleh Malamuzh, artist, animator, director and producer;

Daryna Yakymenko, designer of the merchandising department of the furniture accessories company VIVAR, and others.

The guarantor of the EP "Graphic Design" of the first (bachelor's) level of higher education, Nataliia Chuprina, Doctor of Art Study, Professor, described the main vectors of changes and development of the educational program, the principles of filling educational components in accordance with the requirements of the higher education standard for the specialty "Design" and the proposals of stakeholders that were discussed at previous meetings and round tables.

During the discussion of the content of the EP "Graphic Design" at the event, Raisa Chernukha, a designer, founder of the design school "WannabeDe", spoke, who positively assessed the structural consistency and thematic richness of the educational components "Design-Graphics", "Design of Graphic Design Objects", "Corporate Style". At the same time, she made a proposal to hold additional open lectures by practicing specialists within the educational disciplines on the specifics of developing graphic content of an advertising, educational and social nature for distribution on social networks and in the Internet format in general. The participants of the round table discussed the possibility and outlined the topics of such cooperation within the educational process.

Anna Shtonda, a graduate of the Faculty of Design and director of the studio “Shtonda Design”, in her speech gave positive examples of the formation of complex interdisciplinary design tasks, which became the basis for her professional activity and emphasized the feasibility and importance of preserving them in educational components that form a comprehensive approach in the training of higher education applicants - graphic designers. At the same time, she proposed expanding and deepening the training of specialists in the skills of presenting the results of work in a professional environment, presenting one's own project to potential consumers in the conditions of modern competition.

The guarantor of the EP "Graphic Design" Nataliia Chuprina during the discussion said that acquiring skills to present visual presentations, a portfolio of one's own works are undoubtedly timely and necessary in the current conditions of the development of the graphic design industry in Ukraine. In addition, they are stipulated in the higher education standard and are taught within several educational components. During the discussion of this proposal, an agreement was reached to hold an open lecture by stakeholder Anna Shtonda to exchange experience on this issue with higher education students of the OP "Graphic Design".

The guarantor of the EPP "Multimedia Design" of the first (bachelor's) level of higher education, Olena Vasilieva, head of the Multimedia Design Department, introduced stakeholders to the educational and professional program, main goals, educational components (ECs) that ensure the formation of general and professional competencies and the achievement of program learning outcomes. Following the report, the participants of the event provided suggestions and recommendations for further improvement of the educational program. 

Anna Shtonda, design director of the Shtonda Design agency, recommended paying attention to the issue of presentation of design projects. She suggested that the guarantor and developers of the Multimedia Design EP pay more attention to UX/UI design, as the most popular direction in the modern labor market. She noted the positive direction of the Graphic Design and Multimedia Design EPs, the presence of educational components, within which students study specialized software for use in the professional activities of a graphic designer.

Designer Daria Yakymenko, a designer and graduate of the EP “Multimedia Design”, suggested that within the framework of practical training, focus on cooperation with manufacturers and focus on developing the ability of applicants to present and promote their own projects. During training, students should be given specific design tasks (through observation - analysis - design), which will help them understand the real context of a designer's work in the modern market, interact directly with stakeholders, and develop communication skills. She emphasized that soft skills also play an important role in getting a job.

Oleh Malamuzh recommended that the working group of the EP “Multimedia Design” focus more on one or two areas of multimedia design. However, he emphasized that, given the specifics of multimedia design objects, it is important for students to have basic training in various areas, knowledge of various computer programs that may be used in the future, for example, in UX/UI projects. It was emphasized that multimedia design is primarily a field of designing interactive digital products focused on user experience, functionality, and visual communication.

Olena Holubieva, head of the Ukrainian Animation Association and director of LLC "Studio "Chervony Sobaka", noted that the applicants for the EP "Multimedia Design" have good training and noted that today the specialty is in demand for integrativeness, understanding of the process of developing multimedia objects at all stages. She also recommended adding modules related to working with artificial intelligence to the educational components and paying more attention to issues of copyright for design developments in the work of a multimedia designer.

The positive direction of the educational components of the EPP “Multimedia Design” was noted by Sofia Rozumenko, director of Studio Chervony Sobaka LLC. She emphasized the importance of practical training for applicants and integrativeness in the education of future multimedia designers.

Kateryna Chritchlow shared her experience of training designers in higher education institutions in the UK. She noted the importance of the comprehensive nature of designer training, which is ensured by combining several areas of graphic and multimedia design within the educational program. This approach ensures a higher level of training for graduates and increases their professional mobility and demand in the labor market.

Mykhailo Hryhoriev, product designer, and Roman Shedlovskyi, web designer, also noted the importance of diverse training for the future professional activities of designers, and provided recommendations for improving individual modules of the educational components of the EP “Graphic Design” and EP “Multimedia Design”.

Following the meeting, representatives of the KNUTD thanked partners, employers, and graduates of the KNUTD for their constructive work during the discussion of educational programs and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
