Ukrainian delegation represented by academic leaders of higher education institutions, publishers, editors and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from 19.01.2026 to 23.01.2026 underwent intensive training at Oxford Brookes University as part of the “University Press Publishing for Ukraine: Policy and Practice” program.
Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design was presented by Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation Liudmyla Hanushchak-Yefimenko.
The visit program focused on key aspects of the global academic publishing landscape. The training sessions were led by leading scholars from Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Princeton University Press, UCL Press, Taylor & Francis, Springer Nature and BMJ Publishing Group, as well as UKRI as one of the main national funders of research in the UK. A separate infrastructural dimension was provided by world-class organizations, including Crossref, CLOCKSS, Jisc, and Ingram Content Group, and key panelists Frances Pinter, Byron Russell, and Angus Phillips.
The format combined theoretical and practical cases with institutional visits to Oxford University Press, Ingram Content Group (automated production and print-on-demand) and UCL Press (open access implementation practices and links to science assessment reform), as well as events at Oxford colleges, including a reception at St John's College, Oxford, and Princeton University Press. Today, when the world's gaze is fixed on Ukraine, the policy of open science becomes a "platform" for international partnership, through transparency, openness, and willingness to share scientific results.
The areas that were discussed for further cooperation included the implementation of open science policy, sustainable financial models of university presses and the role of state support in this process, academic integrity, and publishing ethics.
Gratitude to the Ukrainian scientific community for its unity, diplomacy and positioning of Ukrainian science, culture and education in the intellectual heart of Great Britain - Oxford.
We are developing international cooperation and forming new strategic vectors of partnerships!
