On February 11, 2026, a round table on the formation of special competencies of the standard of the specialty "Design" was held in a remote format, which brought together representatives of design education institutions from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv etc.

The meeting was attended by members of the scientific and methodological commission (subcommission) "B2 Design" of the higher education sector of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine:

The special competencies of the “B2 Design” specialty standard for bachelor’s, master’s, PhD levels of higher education were discussed.
The meeting was moderated by Kalyna Pashkevych, Head of the “B2 Design” subcommittee of the National Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Petro Nahirny, Vice-Rector of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, made suggestions regarding the content of professional competencies and suggested focusing on European education standards and their compliance with the descriptors of the National Qualifications Framework for three educational levels.

Vasyl Kosiv, rector of the LNAM, said that when forming proposals for special competencies, the experience of training designers in institutions around the world and the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework were taken into account.

Volodymyr Stasenko made his suggestions, suggesting making the content of the competencies more detailed for the further development of educational programs in order to avoid misinterpretation.
Tetiana Ivanenko, a member of the Sectoral Expert Council for the field “02 Culture and Art” of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, emphasized the need to take into account the requirements of professional standards when formulating competencies and to focus on the professional skills and practical abilities of future designers, especially at the bachelor's level.

Head of the Department of Design at the KNUBA, Yuliia Tretiak, generally agreeing with the proposals of her colleagues, suggested clarifying the terminology and wording of individual competencies.

Oksana Lahoda, head of the Department of Fabric and Clothing Design at the KSADA, proposed including the need for students, especially at the bachelor's level, to have basic knowledge of color science, composition, and form formation among special competencies.

Nataliia Skliarenko, professor of the Department of Architecture and Design of LNTU, proposed to clarify the formulation of the scientific component of competencies at three levels and include the ability to use artistic and graphic design tools for the bachelor's level.

The meeting took place in the form of friendly and productive cooperation, where representatives of leading design schools in Ukraine and a foreign colleague from Slovakia exchanged views and made suggestions on the formulation of professional competencies of the future standard, understanding the importance of this document for the development of domestic design education.
