FORMING MODERN PHD EDUCATION: DISCUSSION OF THE EDUCATIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM «ECONOMICS» WITH STAKEHOLDERS

On March 4, 2026, the Department of Economics hosted a meeting of the working group, scientific and pedagogical staff, applicants, and key stakeholders dedicated to discussing and further developing the educational and scientific program «Economics». The event became an important platform for professional dialogue between the academic community, business representatives, and experts with the aim of forming a modern model for training PhDs capable of generating innovative scientific solutions for economic development.

Olena PTASHCHENKO, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Professor of the Department of Economic Cybernetics and Informatics at the Western Ukrainian National University, emphasized the key areas of modernization of the educational and scientific program, its relevance to current global economic transformations, the challenges of digitalization, sustainable development, and European integration of Ukraine.

Alina KHOZHAYAN, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, emphasized the importance of the research component in postgraduate training, the integration of modern scientific analysis methodologies, the use of digital analytical tools, and the expansion of international academic cooperation.

Dmytro IRNAZAROV, Project Manager at ING Bank JSC, shared his practical experience and outlined his vision of the key competencies necessary for effective professional activity in the context of growing international competition, economic instability, and Ukraine’s integration into the global economic space.

Ihor RUMYK, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Economics and Finance at KROK University, emphasized the systematic interaction between the university and stakeholders in shaping the content of educational and scientific programs and confirmed the shared interest of the academic and professional communities in training a new generation of highly qualified scientists. It is precisely this synergy between education, science, and practice that creates the foundation for the formation of a modern research school capable of generating new knowledge and promoting the innovative development of Ukraine’s economy.

During a constructive professional discussion, scientific and pedagogical workers, stakeholders, and members of the working group made a number of proposals to improve the structure of educational components, deepen interdisciplinary approaches to scientific research, develop the analytical and innovative competencies of applicants, and strengthen the practice-oriented focus of scientific research. The recommendations made will contribute to further improving the quality of training for PhDs in economics and developing a competitive scientific environment.

The meeting demonstrated the importance of ongoing dialogue between the academic community, employers, and experts to ensure the quality of training for PhDs in economics and the formation of a modern research environment at the university.
