«FORMATION OF A SUSTAINABLE BIOECONOMY IN THE CONTEXT OF ACUTE CHALLENGES IN UKRAINE» 

From April 01 to May 31, 2024, the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design held professional development courses for academic staff under the program «Formation of a sustainable bioeconomy in the face of acute challenges in Ukraine» at the Institute of Law and Modern Technologies of KNUTD within the framework of the ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH project, 101127252 - «Promoting of  European skills and approaches for sustainable bioeconomy in the face of Ukrainian acute challenges» (PESAB) Jean Monnet branch.

According to the Professional Development Program «Formation of a Sustainable Bioeconomy in the Context of Acute Challenges in Ukraine», the course aims to improve the managerial, scientific, methodological and professional competencies of students on the problems of promotion of European skills and approaches to a sustainable bioeconomy in the context of acute challenges in Ukraine.

The main objectives of the training are:

  • improvement and updating of knowledge and skills on theoretical, methodological, legal, managerial, philosophical and other issues of ensuring effective professional activity of students;
  • activation of independent activity, development of motivation for professional improvement and personal development of students in open education;
  • obtaining additional and improving existing knowledge and skills in the field of economics, biotechnology and ecology;
  • formation and development of general and professional competencies in economics, sustainable use of bioresources and ecology;
  • studying the experience of European countries in the development of a sustainable bioeconomy;
  • acquisition of skills in applying European skills and approaches to sustainable bioeconomy in the context of current challenges in Ukraine.

The professional development courses were chosen by 28 academic staff from different higher education institutions of Ukraine: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University, State Tax University, State University of Trade and Economics, National University of Food Technologies, Odesa National Technological University, Odesa State Agrarian University, Poltava State Agrarian University, Western Ukrainian National University, Separate structural unit «Professional College of Arts and Design of Kyiv National University of Technologies».

According to the Schedule, the students have mastered the mandatory components:

MC 1. Economics for business.

MC 2. Strategies for a sustainable bioeconomy of the European Union.

MC 3. Biomass utilization in the EU and Ukraine.

MC 4. Bioeconomy and trade in the context of international relations between Ukraine and the EU.

MC 5. Graduation work.

PESAB project manager, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Smart Economics Anna Oleshko presented the basics of SMART economy, prospects for SMART specialization of regions based on bioeconomy and trends in the development of smart cities within the framework of the educational programs «Economics for Business» and «Bioeconomy and Trade in the Context of International Relations between Ukraine and the EU».

PESAB project expert Olena Mokrousova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur, identified trends in the use of biomass in the EU and Ukraine as part of the MC “Biomass Use in the EU and Ukraine”.

Olena Budiakova, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Smart Economics, teacher of the PESAB project, revealed the importance of the EU bioeconomy development, methodological foundations for the development of Sustainable Development Strategies, and the specifics of bioeconomy strategies in Germany, Austria, France, Finland, and Italy within the framework of the EC «Sustainable Bioeconomy Strategies of the European Union».

The volume of the professional development course for full-time, distance or mixed forms of advanced training is 180 hours / 6 ECTS credits.

The volume of a certified training module is set at 60 hours / 2 ECTS credits.

Upon completion of the professional development course, the results of the graduation papers were published in the collective monograph «Green Transformation and Sustainable Bioeconomy».

All participants of the professional development course «FORMATION OF SUSTAINABLE BIOECONOMY IN THE CONDITION OF ACUTE CHALLENGES IN UKRAINE» received Certificates of the TRAINING COURSE «EUROPEAN KNOWLEDGE FOR SUSTAINABLE BIOECONOMY IN UKRAINE».

The implementation of the PESAB project in terms of conducting professional development courses promotes knowledge about the EU for the development of a sustainable bioeconomy in Ukraine in accordance with the EU bioeconomy strategy in line with the KNUTD development policy on the principles of KNUTD Sustainable Development Leadership.
