In November 2024, the competition “Best KNUTD Startup 2024” was held. Members of the “Biotechnologist” club – 4th-year students majoring in 162 “Biotechnology and Bioengineering” Christina Huseynova, Vladyslava Potupa, Tamara Kosinska, and Anastasia Petrukh, led by their supervisor Iryna Voloshyna – with their startup “Innovative Nanomaterials for Burn Treatment” took 1st place in the nominations “Students’ Choice” and “Best KNUTD Startup 2024”.

The decision to participate in the competition was motivated by the desire to help people with burns. The startup’s goal is to create an alternative material for treating burns. The microbial cellulose plasters with nanosilver added, which were developed by the supervisor and students, have many advantages over traditional bandages. The uniqueness of the development lies in the possibility of using the patches several times due to their easy sterilisation.
