On 22 August 2024, the Department of Philology and Translation hosted a regular meeting of the student research group ‘School of Young Linguists’. The topic of the meeting: ‘Language Policy in Ukraine: Current Challenges and Prospects’. The event was hosted by the head of the group, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation, Vyshnevska M.O. The topic of the meeting was devoted to the topical issue of modern Ukraine - language policy.
The head of the group, Associate Professor Vyshnevska M.O., outlined the importance of the topic and noted that language policy is an integral part of the national identity and cultural policy of any state.
During the meeting, the students discussed the current challenges faced by language policy in Ukraine; analysed the legislative framework regulating language processes in the country; reviewed the experience of other countries in the field of language policy and made suggestions for improving language policy in Ukraine.
During the discussion, the students actively expressed their opinions on the role of the state in shaping language policy, the impact of globalisation on the language situation in Ukraine, language education in Ukraine: problems and prospects, and the language issue in the context of European integration.
The meeting demonstrated the high level of interest of students in language issues and their desire to take an active part in shaping the language policy of our country.
