On 12 September 2024, the Department of Philology and Translation hosted a regular meeting of the student research group ‘School of the Young Linguist’. The topic of the meeting: ‘Slang and argot: from the margins to the mainstream’. The event was hosted by the head of the club, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation, M.O. Vyshnevska.
During the event, students had the opportunity to:
- Discuss the origin and evolution of slang and argot.
- Analyse the functions of slang in modern communication.
- Determine the impact of social media on the spread of youth vocabulary.
- Share their own observations and examples of slang usage.
The meeting of the club became a platform for productive discussion of interesting linguistic issues and contributed to the deepening of students' knowledge of the modern language.
