MEETING OF THE "SCHOOL OF YOUNG LINGUISTS" CLUB: LINGUISTIC PUNS AND RIDDLES – A WORDPLAY ADVENTURE

On May 15, 2025, the Department of Philology and Translation hosted another session of the student research club "School of Young Linguists." The meeting, titled "Linguistic Puns and Riddles: A Wordplay Adventure," was led by the club’s supervisor, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation, Maryna Vyshnevska.

During the event, students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of language games, where words become tools for creativity and unexpected discoveries.

The participants:

  • Solved complex linguistic riddles that required not only knowledge but also wit;
  • Analyzed puns, uncovering their grammatical and semantic nature;
  • Created their own language puzzles, experimenting with sounds, meanings, and contexts;
  • Discussed the role of wordplay in developing creative thinking and communication skills.

A highlight of the meeting was the "Most Original Pun" contest, where the winner was chosen by vote. The club session served as a platform for fruitful discussions on fundamental linguistic issues and helped expand students' knowledge about one of the world's largest language families.

The event was held in a warm and inspiring atmosphere, allowing students not only to deepen their understanding but also to enjoy creative interaction with their native language. The next meeting promises to be just as engaging—with plans to explore language illusions and etymological paradoxes!
