From August to October 2024, in accordance with the work plan of the student scientific club «Mastering Ukrainian: countries and people», four meetings were held under the guidance of Svitlana Dvorianchykova, an Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design.
On August 29, 2024, a meeting dedicated to the topic The Known and the Unknown about the Ukrainian Language and Culture was held. At this meeting, international students of KNUTD and prospective philologist-translators gathered. The participants prepared presentations that addressed the formation of the Ukrainian language and initiated a discussion on how modern media, music, cinema, and art are transforming traditions under the influence of globalization.
On September 26, 2024, a meeting on the topic Faculties and Specializations at KNUTD: Students Speak was held. During the discussions and presentations, the students explored the histories behind the establishment of the faculties. They shared their reflections on why they chose their respective faculties and specializations and their views on potential career paths after graduation.
On October 10, 2024, a meeting was held on the topic Pleasant Encounters with Old and New Friends. Participants examined Ukrainian phrases that help establish contact with others and initiate conversations. The students discussed what makes communication with longtime friends distinct from that with new acquaintances and proposed ideas for organizing small gatherings or parties where participants could discuss their plans and shared interests.
On October 24, 2024, a meeting was held on the topic Etiquette in Telephone Conversations and Correspondence. Participants discussed the main stages of a conversation: how to properly greet, introduce oneself, clarify the purpose of the call, conduct the dialogue, and conclude the conversation. The students also took part in educational role-playing exercises, reenacting typical scenarios.
Each meeting contributed to deepening the student’s knowledge and motivated them to master the Ukrainian language while critically analyzing contemporary challenges in its teaching. The students successfully participated in the 25th Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition on October 28, 2024.
The outcomes of the group’s work during this period are scheduled to be reflected in the abstracts and reports that its members will present at several scientific conferences, including:
The 3rd All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference of Education Candidates and Young Researchers “Reconstruction of Ukraine’s Transport Infrastructure” (on March 25, 2025);
The 10th All-Ukrainian Conference “Innovative Trends in Specialist Training in a Multicultural and Multilingual Globalized World” (on April 11, 2025);
