MEETING OF THE SCIENTIFIC CLUB “VOCATIONAL EDUCATION”

On September 3, 2024, a regular meeting of the scientific club “Vocational Training” took place at the Department of Philology and Translation. The topic of the meeting was a critical issue of our time – the impact of social media on our mental health.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the club, associate professor Kseniia Kugai, briefly outlined the purpose and objectives of the meeting. It was noted that social media has become an integral part of our lives, but its impact on our psyche remains a subject of scientific debate.

The main issues discussed were:

  • Positive and negative aspects of using social media. Group members exchanged views on the advantages and disadvantages of social networks. It was noted that, on the one hand, they allow us to communicate with friends and relatives, stay up-to-date with the latest news, and develop our interests. On the other hand, excessive use of social media can lead to addiction, sleep disturbances, decreased self-esteem, and other mental health problems.
  • Physiological and psychological mechanisms of social media impact. Scientific studies were examined that explain how social networks affect our brain and cause certain emotional reactions.
  • Strategies for social media safe use. Club members discussed practical recommendations for reducing the negative impact of social networks.

The meeting of the scientific student group “Vocational Training” demonstrated a high level of interest among students in current issues of psychology and social communication. The discussion of the topic “Our mental health and social media” allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of the interaction between humans and technology, as well as to develop their own strategies for safe use of social networks.
