A MEETING OF THE SCHOOL OF THE YOUNG LINGUIST: DIALECTS AND IDIOMS OF UKRAINE: THE LINGUISTIC WEALTH OF THE REGIONS

On August 28, 2025, the Department of Philology and Translation held a meeting of the "School of Young Linguists" student academic club. The meeting was dedicated to the topic: "Dialects and Idioms of Ukraine: The Linguistic Wealth of the Regions."

The meeting was opened by the club's supervisor, Associate Professor Maryna Vyshnevska, who emphasized the importance of preserving and studying Ukrainian dialects as an integral part of the national cultural heritage.

Students from group BAM-23 actively discussed the features of regional dialects, their origin, and their differences from the literary language. Special attention was paid to the following aspects:

  • The geographical distribution of the main dialect groups of Ukraine.
  • The phonetic, grammatical, and lexical features of specific idioms.
  • The role of dialects in folklore and fiction.

The participants shared their own observations and examples from their native regions, which made the discussion lively and informative. The participants concluded that dialects are a living testament to the history and culture of the Ukrainian people, and their study is an important task for future philologists.

The meeting took place in an atmosphere of engaged discussion. Following the meeting, student Marjana Haiduk (group BAM-23) began preparing a research article on the topic “The influence of dialects on the formation of the modern Ukrainian language.”
