SCIENTIFIC AND CREATIVE “SKETCHING CLUB” MEETING: UKRAINIAN TRADITIONS IN THE CONTEMPORARY ARTISTIC DIMENSION

On 15 September 2025, the Department of Digital Art of the Faculty of Culture and Creative Industries at KNUTD, under the guidance of senior lecturer Svitlana Pashukova, held another meeting of the “Sketching Club”, which traditionally combines research on cultural heritage with artistic practice. The theme of the meeting was “Ukrainian Traditions as a Source of Inspiration for Contemporary Artists”, and the main event was a sketching session dedicated to Borsch Day in Ukraine.

Students of the “Digital Art” and “Graphic Design” programmes created their own interpretations of traditional Ukrainian motifs, combining a variety of techniques. The important task was not only to convey the form, texture and colour of objects but also to explore compositional solutions, rhythm and dynamics of sketches, seeking original approaches in their creative work. The red palette of borscht, the contrasting textures of the ingredients, and the geometry of vegetable components were all transformed into a language of plastic experimentation.

The sketching session became a true laboratory of creativity, where the development of observation skills and speed of execution was combined with the search for new ways of visual expression. The atmosphere of co-creation inspired the participants to bold experiments, unconventional solutions and the exploration of new ideas that may serve as the foundation for future creative projects. The study of Ukrainian traditions in the contemporary artistic dimension demonstrated that cultural heritage can be a powerful source of innovative approaches in art, where each sketch became not only an exercise in technique but also a reflection on national identity. This combination opens up new perspectives for the development of contemporary Ukrainian art, grounded in a deep understanding of cultural codes.
