On October 24, 2025, the Department of Philology and Translation of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design held a regular meeting of the student scientific club “The Art of Translation.” The event was supervised by Associate Professor Nataliia Gudkova, PhD in Philology. The topic of the meeting was “The Specifics of Dialogue Translation: How to Convey Intonation, Style, and Subtext.”

During the session, philology students explored how linguistic and emotional nuances of the original text influence the meaning of the translation and discussed the role of intonation in creating communicative effect. In the practical part, participants analysed excerpts from literary texts and film scripts, compared different translation versions of dialogues, and performed creative exercises focused on rendering subtext and stylistic features of speech.

The meeting was marked by active student participation, lively discussions, and an atmosphere of collaboration. As a result, participants deepened their understanding of the specifics of spoken language translation, improved their skills in conveying intonation and character style, and expanded their perception of the translator’s role as a mediator between cultures.
