Members of the student scientific club “The Art of Translation”, supervised by Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation, PhD in Philology Natalia Gudkova, took an active part in the events of the Modern Foreign Languages Week “Translation: Vision, Mastery, Flexibility”, dedicated to the International Translation Day, held at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design from 29 September to 3 October 2025.

On 29 September 2025, a regular meeting of the club took place on the topic “Translation of Realia and Non-equivalent Vocabulary: Strategies and Mistakes.” The session’s theme was closely aligned with the main idea of the Modern Foreign Languages Week, as it fostered the development of professional competencies among future translators and deepened their understanding of intercultural aspects of translation. Students of groups BAM-23 and BAM-24 discussed the challenges of conveying culturally specific concepts, analysed examples from literary texts, and examined common translation errors.

On 1 October 2025, club members participated in the thematic event “Lost in Translation: Humour and Translation Mishaps,” organised within the framework of the Modern Foreign Languages Week. Participants presented amusing examples of mistranslations from English, analysed their causes, and took part in interactive tasks involving the creative translation of idioms, jokes, and advertising slogans. Particular attention was drawn to the presentation by Kamila Hryb (BAM-23) on “Adapting Humour in Cross-Cultural Translation: Problems and Strategies,” which sparked an engaging discussion among participants. Based on this presentation, the student prepared a paper for publication in the proceedings of the All-Ukrainian Student Scientific and Practical Conference “New Trends in Translation Studies, Philology, and Language Didactics in the Context of Globalisation Processes” (Zhytomyr, 5 November 2025).

Club members also took part in the Literary Translation Contest “This Is How I Perceive the World,” held as part of the Modern Foreign Languages Week. Participants presented high-quality translations of poetic and prose works, which received excellent evaluations from the jury.
