On April 27, 2026, another meeting of the student scientific club “The Art of Translation” of the Department of Philology and Translation at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design was held under the supervision of Nataliia Gudkova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor.
The topic of the meeting was “Difficulties of Translating Idioms and Proverbs: Between Literalism and Meaning.” The meeting was attended by students of groups БАМ-23 and БІП-25, who discussed the peculiarities of rendering phraseological units, idioms, and proverbs in intercultural communication.
During the meeting, the participants analyzed examples of English and Ukrainian idiom translation, compared literal and adapted translation approaches, and identified the difficulties of reproducing the cultural and stylistic features of fixed expressions.

Special attention was paid to the interdisciplinary interaction between students of two specializations – philology and software engineering. Such cooperation contributed to the discussion of modern approaches to automated translation, the challenges of idiom recognition by artificial intelligence systems, and the role of human interpretation in preserving meaning and cultural context.
The participants also discussed the materials of the student presentation by Ali Himadutin, Problems of Translating Culturally Marked Vocabulary in Intercultural Communication, presented at the XII International Conference “Trends in the Development of Philological Education in the Context of Integration into the European Space,” held on April 23-24, 2026. As a result of participation, the conference abstracts were published, and the student received a conference participation certificate.

The meeting contributed to the development of students’ translation competencies, critical thinking, and awareness of the importance of combining humanitarian and digital approaches in modern translation studies.
