History

The Department of Physical Education and Health was established in 1948. Since then, much has been done for the promotion of physical education and sports among students.

Heads of the Department:

1948-1964 – Heorhii Kysylevski;

1964-2000 – Prof. Yevhenii Molodan;

2000-2014 – Volodymyr Tkachenko

Starting from 2014 until the present, the Department has been headed by Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Lyudmyla Dudorova.

Teaching Staff

The Department has 7 members: 3 professors, 2 associate professors, and 2 senior lecturers. The support staff of the Department are 2 laboratory technicians who perform work connected with the educational process.

Most of them have many years of experience in higher education, and high educational and personal qualifications.

Research interests: physical culture and sports, healthy lifestyle of students, training of tourism specialists.

Publications: over 150 scientific and methodological works, including those indexed in the scientific databases Scopus and Web of Science, 1 utility patent.

 

Oleksandr KOLUMBET, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Health

Research interests: the theory and methods of physical culture, sports training, and the bases of health of different groups of the population.

Publications: over 200 scientific and educational works, including indexed in scientific databases Scopus and Web of Science.

Prepared: 1 PhD in Pedagogical Sciences.

Awards: Gratitude of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the award of the State Committee of the USSR for Physical Culture and Sports, and the certificate of the International Olympic Committee for a significant contribution to the training of highly skilled specialists in the industry.

 

Yurii VYKHLIAIEV, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Health

Research interests: innovative technologies in PE of students and persons with limited possibilities of health, the technology of motive activity, physical therapy, ergotherapy, recreations, and technical equipment for their realization.

Publications: more than 200 scientific and -methodological works, from the three scientific monographs, four study aids, more than 50 copyright certificates, and patents for inventions and useful models.

Prepared: 2 PhDs in Pedagogical Sciences.

Liliya TOMICH, PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Health

Research interests: physical therapy, occupational therapy; human health; rehabilitation of children with special educational needs.

Publications: more than 150 scientific and educational publications, including textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Awards: Badge “Excellence in Education of Ukraine”, Badge “Vasily Sukhomlinsky”.

Yuliia PARYSHKURA, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Health

Research interests: physical education; theory and methodology of physical education in children’s educational establishments; theory and methodology of physical education and valeological education.

Publications: over 60 scientific and methodological works, including those indexed in the scientific databases Scopus and Web of Science.

 

Serhii CHERNOVSKYI, Senior Teacher of the Department of Physical Education and Health

Research interests: improving physical culture, development of physical qualities of boys and student youth using football.

Publications: over 50 scientific and methodological works, including those indexed in the scientific databases Scopus and Web of Science.

Awards: Award from the Ministry of Ukraine of Family, Youth and Sports “Honorary Worker of Physical Culture and Sports”, Medal of the Football Federation of Kyiv “For Merits of the III Degree”.

 

Volodymyr TKACHENKO, Senior Teacher of the Department of Physical Education and Health

Research interests: physical education, physical fitness, and the development of physical qualities of students using volleyball

Publications: over 50 scientific and methodological works.

Teaching and Learning Materials

The teaching staff of the Department is constantly working on the preparation and updating of educational and methodical manuals, a search for new forms and methods of activation of the educational process of students’ physical education.

Annually, the teaching staff of the Department prepares over 20 names of methodological study aids (tasks for independent work, methodical instructions for the implementation of motor activity, etc.).

An educational process is conducted as practical and sectional classes, organized independent work of students, including the writing of essays and testing.

Educational course “Physical education” is  a complex of methodical documentation (educational and methodical complex) that includes: a program of the course on content modules, tasks for practical classes, methodical instructions, and tasks for independent work of students, criteria for evaluation of students’ knowledge by ongoing, module and final control, modern methods, and teaching technologies.

Results of studies :

After completing the course of study, the bachelor will demonstrate:

the ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems in the field of physical culture and sports, which include the application of the theory and methods of physical education and sports, biomedical, psychological and pedagogical disciplines and management. The ability to demonstrate knowledge of the basics of professionally-oriented disciplines in the field of physical culture and sports; performing discipline; work in an interdisciplinary team and independently, organize your business in the field of physical culture and sports, manage personal self-development (self-study, application of knowledge in practice, willingness and ability to learn independently), generate breakthrough innovative business ideas.

Sphere of employment :

graduated students can work in fitness centers, fitness clubs, sports and health centers, sports centers for all: a sports school instructor, an aerobics instructor, a gymnastics instructor, a fitness trainer, a leisure specialist, an instructor for recreational sports tourism (for types of tourism), instructor in martial and physical training, instructor-methodologist from physical culture and sports, instructor-methodologist in production gymnastics.

Activities of the Department

Physical training is one of the most effective methods among various means of improving efficiency, reducing fatigue, and preventing deviations in health.

At our University, physical education and sports take a prominent place. The program for physical education of students has the general physical fitness section and the professionally applied physical preparation section. Physical education covers almost all students. There are different classes according to types of specialization: football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, and bullet shooting. Classes offer both practical and theoretical approaches to the individual involved.

The main tasks of training for all the students:

  • to increase physical dynamic efficiency by improving the physical qualities: stamina, strength, flexibility, coordination, agility, etc.
  • ensuring a high level of functioning of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems, vestibular apparatus.
  • the development of mental qualities and skills.
  • the development of resistance to adverse weather conditions.

The sports team of KNUTD is a regular participant in Pechersk district Sports Games “Under Golden Domes of Pechersk” and “The Health Games of Pechersk District” in  12 sports. The team is multiple champions of “The Health Games of Pechersk District”.

Stable and high rates among playing teams are shown by volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, and bullet shooting teams.

  • “Lehprom” football team is the winner of the Ukrainian championship among Ukrainian universities, and a regular participant in the championships of Kyiv.
  • “Lehprom” basketball team participates in the championships of Ukraine and is the champion of the club of the Student Trade Union Association of Kyiv.
  • “Lehprom” volleyball team participates in the Student League of the Ukrainian Championship, finalists of the Universiade of Ukraine.

The teaching staff of the Department pays great attention to the educational and methodological support of the learning process. The Department produced many scientific developments in the organization of theoretical and practical training for students, and their independent work.

Since 1958, the University sports camp “Molodizhniy” operates in the village of Pliuty. Every year in the camp (summer and winter), there are competitions in various sports, hiking, and other sports activities.

International Cooperation

Football team “Lehprom” of KNUTD maintains relations with Polish student teams, which took part in the tournament “Students Euro-2012” in Kyiv. The tournament involved the teams:

  1. Silesia Polytechnic, Gliwice;
  2. Yahelonski University, Krakow;
  3. University of Silesia, Katowice;
  4. Adam Mitskewicz University, Poznan.

Also, the Department maintains relations with the Private University of Environmental Sciences, Poland, Radom city.
