The Department of Computer Science trains specialists in the field of knowledge 12 Information technology in the specialty 122 "Computer science" of the following levels of higher education:

first (bachelor), educational and professional program Computer Science

second (master), educational and professional program Computer Science

By specialty 125 "Cyber security"

Research

At the Department of Computer Science, under the direction of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.Yu. Scherban, work is being carried out aimed at the development of mathematical and software information and reference and expert systems of industry, services and education; mathematical and CAD software of equipment and technological processes of textile, garment and footwear industry.

One of the most important aspects of student’s research of the Department of Computer Science is participation in the organization of the annual exhibition-competition for the development of webpages related to the activities of the Department, the Faculty, and the University. Such annual exhibition-competitions have become traditional and popular. More than 100 students took part in this work under the guidance of teachers of the Department. A characteristic feature is that every year their number increases and is updated.

In addition, the students and staff of the Department of Computer Science upon request of other University departments provide technical and methodological assistance in the use of modern information technologies in scientific and educational activities. Close ties with the Departments of Technology and Design of Garments, Design and Technology of Leather Products and the Department of Electrochemical Energy Engineering and Chemistry  can be noted here.

In 2021, the Department published: a total number of publications is 178, of which: 4 monographs (61.18 printed sheets), 1 monograph in foreign publications (0.92 printed sheets), 80 articles (8,325 printed sheets), of which 4 in foreign publications, 14 in professional publications, including 8 in Scopus, 49 articles with students; 54 abstracts (4.7 printed sheets), of which 28 of the international level with the participation of students, 24 of the international level, 24 with the participation of students (2.2 printed sheets), 4 author's certificates, 9 methodical instructions (22.39 printed sheets).

Within the framework of cooperation with the International Academy of Computer Science and Systems under the direction of Academician V.Yu. Scherban, at the Department of Computer Science and Technology on behalf of the Presidium of the Academy, there is lead work is being carried out on  the development of complex tasks for the International Olympiads in the direction "Informatics and Information Technology."

At the Department there is a postgraduate school, 10 postgraduates. Professors of the Department participate in the 3 Specialized Scientific Councils.

Scientific Schools
  • Scientific Advisor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.Yu. Scherban – “Mathematical modeling and CAD development of technological processes and equipment of the light and textile industry”. During the existence of the school, 24 candidates and 5 doctoral dissertations were defended. The school maintains close ties with the Institutes of Cybernetics and Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Khmelnytsky National University, Kherson National Technical University, UkrNIIshveiprom, UkrNII Textile and Haberdashery Industry.  28 monographs, textbooks, more than 450 articles in professional publications and leading journals, more than 550 abstracts of reports at scientific conferences and more than 220 copyright certificates and patents have been published.

Scientific Cooperation

The Department has 2 agreements of scientific and technical cooperation with the Institute of Cybernetics and the Institute of Mathematics of the NAS of Ukraine. In accordance with the agreements of scientific and technical cooperation, the staff of the Department of Computer Science, participated in the organization and holding of an international conference dedicated to the prospects for the development of domestic electronic computing technology at the base of the Institute of Cybernetics of Ukraine.

The Department has 17 teachers, including 4 professors (3 Doctors of Technical Sciences, 1 Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics), and 10 Associate Professors (Candidates of Technical Sciences).

Serhii KRASNYTSKYI, Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics, Professor

Research interests: Probability and mathematical statistics.

Courses taught: Modern methodology of experimental data processing, Logical foundations of construction and functioning of CAD, Basic system principles and intelligent systems, Mathematical methods of operations research and decision-making.

Scientific direction: Theory of random processes and fields. Issues of mathematical statistics in the study of light industry processes.

Educational and Laboratory Facilities

The Department of Computer Science includes two computer labs equipped with modern computer equipment (two network switches with 16 personal computers). The Department has a research laboratory that works on the problems of CAD development of equipment and technical processes of the light and textile industry and a laboratory for maintenance and upgrading computers.

 

Students

Students of the Department are actively involved in solving complex scientific and technical problems because scientific activity promotes deep mastery of a specialty. From the 2nd year of study, they take an active part in the research work of the Department. Students prepare essays, make reports for student academic seminars and conferences of young scientists and students.

Every year in February and March, the University tour of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad in the cycle of profiling courses is held among students of 3-5 years at the Department, in which more than 50 students took part in the last year alone.

Every year students take an active part in the all-Ukrainian conference of young scientists and students, which takes place in April at KNUTD, subsection is "Design Information Technologies".

In 2018, students of the Department published 76 articles (9.85 printed sheets), 88 abstracts (7.17 printed sheets), 86 abstracts of reports of the all-Ukrainian level, 2 abstracts at international conferences.

In 2019, students of the Department published: a total number of publications was 141, including 70 articles (8,794 printed sheets), 71 abstracts (5.24 printed sheets), of which 68 were of the all-Ukrainian level, 3 of the international level (0.24 printed sheets).

In 2020, students of the Department published: a total number of publications was 77, including 49 articles (6,793 printed sheets), 29 abstracts (2.2 printed sheets), of which 68 were of the international level (2.16 printed sheets).

Talented students of the Department can participate in the annual competition of scientific papers and Olympiads of professional courses and win awards and prizes.

In 2010, the student V. Usykova of IT1-06 Group with the report "Software and mathematical support for automated cutting of rectangular materials into parts of complex configuration" took 2nd place in the competition of scientific papers "CAD in Engineering" (supervisor, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences V.I. Chuprynka).

In 2017, the student Kh. Panasiuk received a 2nd-degree diploma at the competition of student scientific papers (Section - Mechatronics, metrology and computer technologies), and the students Kh. Chakova and O. Yurchuk - 3rd-degree diplomas.

In 2018, the student I. Makarenko took 2nd place in the 2nd stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the discipline "Computer-aided design and computer simulation in mechanical engineering".

Also, one of the important aspects of students’ research work of the Department is the participation in the organization and holding of the annual exhibition-competition for the development of Web pages on the subject of the Department, the Faculty and the University. More than 80 students participate in this work under the guidance of teachers of the Department. The winners of the competition later became prize winners of international competitions and festivals in Web design and Internet advertising.

On the instructions of the University management, the Department of Computer Science is the leader in the development of the Web page of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

During the defense of Master’s theses, some students took:

Opportunities for Students

Graduates of this specialty can work on the development and operation of software for CAD not only at light industry enterprises, but also in other industries, national economy and businesses that require deep knowledge of computer hardware and technology. Students who want to continue their education can enter the postgraduate school of the University and the Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Graduates are trained to solve professional problems, including:

  • mathematical training, as well as training in the theoretical, methodological and algorithmic foundations of information technologies for the use of mathematical tools in solving practical and scientific problems in information systems and technologies;

training in programming, mastery of algorithmic thinking, methods of software engineering, for the implementation of software to meet the requirements for its quality, reliability, and production characteristics.

Graduates get specialized and professional competencies:

  • knowledge of the principles, methods and algorithms of computer graphics, the ability to apply them in the development of graphic interfaces for human-computer interaction;
  • knowledge of the theoretical and practical foundations of system analysis methodology for the study of complex interdisciplinary problems of various nature, methods of formalization of system tasks that have conflicting goals, risks, and uncertainties;
  • knowledge of the theoretical and practical foundations of methodology of modeling technology in the research, design and operation of information systems, products, services, information technology; the ability to implement algorithms of modeling to study the characteristics and condition of complex objects;
  • knowledge of the concepts of data storage, their operational analytical processing and mining; the ability to identify previously unknown  knowledge necessary for decision-making in various areas of professional activity;
  • knowledge of the methodology of automated design of complex objects and systems, the ability to use modern computer technology for their system, functional, construction and technological design;
  • knowledge of the theoretical foundations of IT projects management, RMBOK standards and principles of teamwork; the ability to work in a team and apply software project management systems;
  • knowledge of organizational, technical, algorithmic, and other methods and ways for information protection; the ability to apply them in the professional activity;
  • knowledge of the architecture of computer networks, the ability to apply them in the process of justifying the technical support of  information systems.
Student Clubs

A club under the leadership of V.Yu. Scherban works at the Department, where students learn programming languages that are not taught in the educational process.

Graduates

Graduates of the Department of Computer Science work in state and private institutions at the positions of system administrators, heads of departments of application software development, and computer network administrators in commercial banks.

International Cooperation

Within the framework of cooperation with the International Academy of Computer Sciences and Systems under the leadership of Academician V.Yu.Scherban, on behalf of the Presidium of the Academy, work is being carried out on the development of complex problems for international competitions in the direction of "Computer Science and Information Technology."

The Department has a scientific school headed by professor V.Yu. Scherban. The main directions of the scientific process of the school are mathematical modeling of technological processes and equipment of the light and textile industry, improving technological processes of light and textile industry, the development of CAD technological processes and equipment of light and textile industry.
