Scientific Activity

Scientific and technical activity of the department is related to the development of the theory of designing and improving the mechanisms of light industry machines with the basics of the strength of polymer and composite materials.

The Department has scientific schools:

1. Improvement of methods of designing light industry machines - the founder of the school, Doctor of Sciences in Engineering (D.Sc.), professor, Bronislav Orlovsky, has trained 7 doctors and 57 candidates of technical sciences.

2. Mathematical modelling, algorithmic and CAD software - the founder of the school, Doctor of Sciences in Engineering (D.Sc.), professor,, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology Volodymyr Shcherban - has trained 5 doctors and 24 candidates of sciences

The applied developments of the department's teachers are reflected in monographs, textbooks, training manuals, scientific articles, patents for inventions and useful models.

Students

Students studying at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, specialising in 131 Applied Mechanics and 133 Industrial Engineering, begin to master their future profession from the first year of study, as theoretical skills are supported by practical training every year. The knowledge gained in the humanities not only develops a patriotic attitude towards their country, but also broadens their horizons. Knowledge of higher mathematics and physics is the key to mastering complex and at the same time necessary for a future engineer disciplines such as theoretical mechanics, material resistance, theory of mechanisms and machines, without which a future specialist will not find a "common language" with any equipment or objects around us.

Since mastering these subjects provides the key foundations for understanding the nature and emergence of forces arising from physical processes, at the same time, studying engineering and computer graphics and UPCS standards allows you not only to observe the design of the product, its functioning and purpose, but also to be able to "interact" with technical documentation that can be drawn up in any foreign language.

In today's environment of advanced engineering and technology, it is difficult to imagine higher technical education without the full use of modern computer-aided design systems. Thus, when studying special engineering subjects, students are given the opportunity to simultaneously master computer-aided design systems such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, TopSolid, CAMWorks, MathCAD, Creo, Moldex3D, Fusion360. These are modern tools not only for structural design, but also for engineering calculation, analysis, optimisation and production preparation. This allows students to expand their competencies in the field of modern design tools, which helps to increase their competitiveness in the labour market. In particular, such systems as Solidworks, Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) are widely used in the machine-building industry not only in Ukraine but also around the world.

After studying the special engineering courses that form the personality of the student, in the senior years, students study the courses that develop the competencies and skills of the future profession. In this way, a specialist in applied mechanics masters the disciplines that allow him to design, develop, program various technological machines, elements of logistics, robotics and mechatronic systems, which are used in automated warehouses and automated technological processes in various industries, as well as carry out service maintenance, installation and operation.

Prospects for Students

Specialists in applied mechanics and industrial machinery engineering can work in managerial positions, as managers, engineers, designers, technologists at enterprises that use technological, automated and robotic equipment of various industries. In addition, specialists in applied mechanics and mechanical engineering understand the service maintenance, operation and repair of equipment of automated logistics systems, which are used in automated warehouses and automated technological processes in various industries.
