ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
History

The development of the economy, legal and political spheres of our country require professionals of a new generation, who meet the requirements which are brought forward by changes in socio-legal guidelines. Analysis of the legislative acts adopted during the years of Ukraine’s independence shows that the majority of them concern economic and legal policies. Thus, on the job market of our country there is a great need for law specialists who are capable of providing legal support at the state level, as well as in the private sector of economic activities. Taking into account this need, in June 2015 the Academic council of the Kyiv National university of technology and design made the decision to establish a faculty of Law within the university, which admitted students for bachelor level, and specialists of commercial courts, courts of general jurisdiction, enterprises, institutions of various forms of ownership, who could in the future hold positions of heads of structural divisions of these institutions.

The department of private and public law is established from a number of legal scholars who have experience of working both in human rights structures and in law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, on the basis of the departments of the faculty of law (department of private law, department of general law disciplines, the department of economic law). In time, it was renamed as the faculty of Entrepreneurship and Law. Since September 2020, the department of private and public law has become part of the Educational and scientific institute of law and contemporary learning technologies, and from September 2021, part of the Educational and scientific institute of law and modern technologies of the Kyiv National university of technology and design, and is comprised of two doctors of legal sciences, 5 candidates of legal sciences, 1 candidate of sciences in public administration, and 1 department assistant, of which 4 persons have the academic title of associate professor, and 2 – professor.

The purpose of the department of private and public law is to acquire:

  • for students of higher education of the first and second level in the specialty 081 “Law”: competencies to resolve complex specialized tasks and practical problems in the area of economic-legal activity, use certain theories and methods of corresponding sciences, which are characterized by complexity and uncertainty of conditions, as well as conducting research using innovation;
  • for students of the third level of education in the specialty 081 “Law”: capability of solving complex problems in the field of professional, including research-innovative activity, which foresees a deep rethinking of already existing, and creating of new integral knowledge and/or professional practice in the field of law;
  • for students of higher education of the first level in the specialty 052 “Political science”: competencies concerning solving strategic tasks of administration in the public sphere, state-corporate sector, establishment and coordination of public communications within the system of public authorities and amongst the public, capable of implementing professional obligations under the conditions of external and internal factors of influence from a competitive political environment using instruments of political products, brands, and lobbying technologies;
  • for students of higher education of the first level in the specialty 054 "Sociology" of competencies in the field of sociology and social communications, able to navigate in the modern communication space, solve current social problems and solve practical tasks in order to achieve efficiency in various spheres of human life.

Yes, the pedagogical and scientific staff of the department conduct educational activities under a wide specter of disciplines in the specialty 081 “Law”, which are directed towards studying the legal grounds of economic activity, foreign economic activity of economic entities, judicial protection, protection of intellectual and creative property rights, resolution of legal disputes, legal protection of rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests in public administration, advocacy.

The focus of the educational activity of the department regarding the specialty 052 “Political science” is educational disciplines that form the skills necessary for solving specialized tasks related to: the use of communicative mechanisms in the process of professional activities; ensuring the effectiveness of the functioning of public authorities, planning and carrying out communicative events and dialogue forms of interaction between public authorities and the public; implementation of modern international power relations; formation and implementation of foreign state policy; application of practical skills of using foreign languages in professional activities.

The focus of the educational activity of the department regarding the specialty 054 "Sociology" is educational disciplines that form skills necessary for solving specialized tasks regarding the application of sociological analysis of trends in the development of social communications; development of creative and practical projects in the field of social communications; expert-analytical, political - communicative, organizational, consulting and public activities.

The Department of private and public law is actively engaged in scientific, educational, methodical, and organizational work, which is aimed at obtaining the appropriate level of knowledge by students of higher education, in order to provide specialists in the field of law, political science and sociology.

Research Activities

An important task of the department is the guaranteed provision of a high level of the educational process and professionalism of the teaching staff of the department, which is facilitated by the research work of the department, carried out in the field of aspects of law and political science. The department of private and public law forms a highly educated, nationally conscious, honest, caring, creative personality of education students, capable of thinking independently, and act responsibly in accordance with the principles of good faith and justice for the development of an open and democratic society.

Conducting scientific conferences and seminars

Every year, the department of private and public law conducts scientific and practical seminars, round tables, and also takes part in All-Ukrainian and international scientific and practical conferences, which are dedicated to relevant issues of legal and political science.

The pedagogical and scientific team of the department conduct excursions for students of higher education in the specialties 081 “Law”, 052 “Political science” and "Sociology".

 

  

 

 

Educational and Methodological Support

Methodological support of the educational process is the main criteria for quality education in the Kyiv National university of technology and design. Due to changes that are taking place in the educational plans of the department, pedagogical and scientific staff conduct a renewal and development of educational and educational and scientific programs for the specialization 081 “Law”, 052 “Political science” and 054 "Sociology", working programs, module test programs for the testing of knowledge of the higher education students. In the department, there is a systemic preparation and renewal of the educational and methodological literature, search for new forms and methods of activating the educational process (business games, situational classes etc).

For all of the disciplines there are developed educational and methodological complexes, which are defined by the programs of the disciplines, educational and production practices; methodological instructions for completing coursework for independent and control work for correspondence format students, etc.

Scientific and Pedagogical Aactivity

The department actively continues the process of finding and developing new pedagogical methods and educational technologies to increase the effectiveness of providing educational services. Staff of the department carry out consultation and other individual work, including during industrial practice, educational functions are implemented in the process of group and individual work with students of higher education during informal communication with them. The teaching staff of the department works fruitfully on the formation of faith in personal capabilities and the reality of professional achievements among the students of higher education.

  • Support legal cases and statistical reporting in enterprises, institutions, organizations.
  • Carry out analysis of legal cases in the spheres of rulemaking, executive-administrative, judicial and control-supervisory activities.
  • Organize legal work in state and private organizations and in enterprises of various ownership forms.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct external and internal legal audit.
  • Organize and support legal work in enterprises and other organizations in accordance with the obtained specialization.
  • Interpret and analyze judicial information for justification, development and management decision making.
  • Carry out a systemic legal analysis of production and commercial activity, assess financial state of enterprises, institutions and organizations.
  • Carry out financial and legal, budget and credit-banking control in institutions and enterprises of state and private sectors of the economy.
  • To use modern information and legal systems and technologies in the spheres of finance and accounting reporting and audit, carry out the setting of financial and credit tasks, and tasks pertaining to accounting and auditing under the conditions of implementing the constitutional right of access to information technologies.
  • Define the convincingness of arguments during the assessment process of conditions and circumstances unknown in advance.
  • Carry out analysis of societal processes in the context of the problems being analyzed and demonstrate a personal vision of pathways to resolve them.
  • Carry out collection and an integrated analysis of materials from different sources.
  • Formulate personal, reasoned judgements on the basis of analysis of a known problem.
  • Give a short summary concerning separate factual conditions (data) with adequate justification.
  • Assess shortcomings and advantages of arguments, through analyzing a known problem.

  • Interpret and analyze judicial information for justification, development and management decision making.

  • Carry out analysis of legal cases in the spheres of rulemaking, executive-administrative, judicial and control-supervisory activities.

  • Conduct systemic legal analysis of production and commercial activity, assess financial state of enterprises, institutions and organizations.

  • The methodology for development and implementation of legal norms, analysis of legal activity, control over the correct usage of acting laws.
  • General scientific and special methods for researching legal phenomena and processes.
  • The main contemporary legal doctrines, values and principles of the functioning of the national legal system, lawmaking and rule making activities, methods of adherence, implementation and application of legal norms.
  • Knowledge of professional terminology in a foreign language; command of a business foreign language at an appropriate level; knowledge of the peculiarities of linguistic organization of business communication

After successful completion of studies, the student of higher education is obligated to be able to:

  • Demonstrate universal skills of a researcher, in particular oral and written presentation of results of personal scholarly research, writing propositions for the improvement of current legislation and the practice of its application.
  • Develop the structure and content of an educational activity in accordance with didactic aims, plan personal work of students and apply main systems of diagnosis and assessment of results of educational activities in jurisprudence, strategies of pedagogical cooperation.
  • Apply different strategies of pedagogical cooperation when studying legal disciplines, ways of influence through communication, pedagogical dialogue in communication when researching legal norms, as well as demonstrate leadership skills and self regulation on the basis of self awareness.
  • Choose methods of scholarly research in the field of law.
  • Use modern knowledge in the field of law for development of presentations of received results of scholarly research.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate in a dialogue regime with the scientific/scholar community and public at large in the field of law, present, discuss and defend personal legal views in oral and written forms before both professional and non specialist audiences.
  • Find information and discuss in a foreign language environment while solving general legal and professional tasks; be able to translate, abstract, and annotate legal documents.
  • Carry out scientific searches, research and correctly formulate signs of novelty in the objects being developed, completely analyze the provisions of the acting legislature in order to define its effectiveness and prospects for application in practical activities.
  • Form and analyze statistical data in the field of law, correctly interpret received information for generalization and presentation with accents of critical assessment.
  • Freely communicate on the topics of professional problems in the field of jurisprudence in both the national and foreign languages in both oral and written form, discuss results of professional activities with professionals and non specialists, argue one’s position on debatable issues of a legal nature. Convey complex ideas in a clear manner and argue them.
  • Use modern information technology for research in the field of law, modelling of technological processes of solving legal problems and making optimal decisions.
  • Use modern knowledge in the sphere of jurisprudence to support eurointegration processes in Ukraine.

  • Apply professional knowledge and practical skills for analysis of the activities of mass media in the political plane.
  • Apply a toolkit of normative and empirical political theory, political methodology, comparative and applied political science, international and global studies in professional activities.

After a successful completion of studies, the student of higher education is obliged to be able to:

  • Use the conceptual apparatus of sociology in educational and research

        and other areas of professional activity.

  • To understand the history of the development of sociology, its modern concepts and theories, the main problems.
  • Apply the provisions of sociological theories and concepts to the study of social changes in Ukraine and the world.
  • To explain the regularities and features of the development and functioning of social phenomena in the context of professional tasks.
  • Communicate freely in national and foreign/foreign languages orally and in writing on professional matters.
  • Effectively perform various roles (in particular, organizer, communicator, critic, idea generator, executor, etc.) in a team in the process of solving professional tasks.
  • Be able to use information and communication technologies in the process of searching, collecting and analyzing sociological information.
  • Justify one's own position, make and argue independent conclusions based on the results of research and analysis of professional literature.
  • Be able to develop a sociological research program.
  • Have the skills to collect social information using quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • To comply with the ethical norms of the sociologist's professional activity.
  • Apply social communication methods to organize one's own professional activities and manage the activities of other social entities.
  • Have the skills to plan, prepare and conduct communication companies and events in accordance with the goals and objectives of the organization based on research results.

 

Law graduates of the institution of higher education can work as managers at all levels of managers, as well as specialists in rights protection structures, law enforcement agencies of Ukraine; organizers of small and medium sized businesses; legal advisers at various enterprises, institutions and organizations irrespective of the form of ownership; attorneys, notaries, arbitration managers.

Graduates of the specialization 052 “Political science” have the right to hold positions in state authorities, local self-government bodies, public bodies, political and self-governing organizations, as part of commercial structures, as part of international organizations, in scientific research institutions.

Students of the higher education specialization 081 “Law” undergo practical training in internal affairs bodies, legal and insurance companies, local self-government bodies, prosecutor’s offices, courts, in the notary system, advocacy etc.

Students of higher education specialty 052 “Political science” and 054 "Sociology" undergo practical training and pre-diploma practice on the basis of public organizations, state and local self-government bodies, scientific and research centers.

Groups and Scientific Work of Students

Three scientific groups are active in the department:

“Current issues of private law” (supervisor Koval O.), “Current problems of public law” (supervisors Onishchyk Y., Kovalenko I.), “Discussion” (supervisor Fastovets N.). Group meetings are held on a monthly basis, during which supervisors prepare students for participation in scientific/scholarly events; provide methodological assistance during the process of preparing students scientific research, as well as conduct scientific public events and meetings of students with representatives of public authorities and local self government and other institutions and offices. During 2020-2023 over 70 people participated in scientific conferences, where there issues of legal support and implementation of innovations and priority pathways of their improvement were discussed.

 

 

Foreign Partnership

The department of private and public law supports and develops international links with institutions of higher education and organizations in foreign countries.

International cooperation is also implemented through participation of the department of private and public law in joint educational projects and international conferences, round tables, symposiums and so forth.

The department carries out preparation of bachelors and masters level students from foreign countries.
