TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

in the XXIII International Contest of One Image 

and New Year and Christmas Decor "Suzirya Kashtan"

 

Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design announces the start of the XXIII International Contest of One Image and New Year's and Christmas Decor "Suzirya "Kashtan" (hereinafter referred to as the Contest), dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the founding of KNUTD, and invites students of higher education institutions to participate in the Contest program, which will be held from October 20 to December 5, 2025.

The aim of the "Suzirya "Kashtan" Contest is to realize the creative potential of student youth.

The objectives of the Contest are:

- to create conditions for the realization of the creative potential of young people in the field of design, textiles, decorative arts and fashion;

- to demonstrate the results of the creative work of young designers to a wide audience of specialists and potential consumers;

- to promote higher education for future specialists in the fields of textiles and textile products; clothing and accessories; leather goods and footwear, graphic design, etc.;

- to popularize the creativity of young designers;

- to disseminate modern trends in design, fashion and national culture among students and young designers;

- to create conditions for strengthening and developing ties between the creative youth of Ukraine and other countries of Europe and the world.

 

Organization of the Contest

The organizational, methodological and informational support of the Contest is provided by the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. The Organizing Committee of the Contest includes leading Ukrainian and foreign experts in the field of design, decorative arts and fashion industry, specialized domestic and foreign educational institutions of Moldova, China, Great Britain, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Albania, etc.

Official languages of the Contest: Ukrainian, English.

 

Jury of the Contest

The jury (according to the areas of the Contest) consists of leading specialists and experts in the field of design and fashion and specialized higher education at the national and world levels, and representatives of the media.

 

Contest Procedure

Students, young designers, and other participants in the educational process in the fields of textiles, design, decorative arts, and fashion can participate in the Contest.

The Contest is held in one stage – the jury evaluates the submitted works and determines the winners of the Contest by nominations.

Professional competitions are held in the following nominations:

1. Contest of one image of fashion clothing (costume):

Christmas tide - the image is performed in compliance with traditional national motifs (national festivities, nativity scene heroes, ryadzheni, etc.);

New Year's ball – the image is performed in evening or festive figurative solutions of the ensemble of costume and accessories;

Masquerade – the image is performed in the style of masquerade costumes, made using traditional and non-traditional materials, means of their processing (fairy-tale, literary, historical, artistic characters, etc.);

2. Contest "Shoe Montpensier"(shoes and accessories) – one pair of festive shoes, possibly in combination with accessories or sets of accessories./p>

3. New Year's and Christmas Decor Contest:

Christmas vertep / panel (tapestry, abakan, patchwork, batik, embroidery) – Christmas vertep is made of various materials (straw, cardboard, plaster, etc.; size not less than 50x50 cm); panel is made using textiles and any other materials);

Christmas tree / set of Christmas tree toys / doll – Christmas tree is made of any materials; set of Christmas tree toys (from three elements of the set) is made of traditional (glass, plastic, textiles) or any non-traditional materials; doll is made of any traditional or non-traditional materials;

New Year postcard – design project of three exhibits, united by one theme or image, made of any traditional or non-traditional materials;

New Year jewelry and accessories / 3D model – sketches of models of a set of jewelry made of metals and precious stones, or a set of accessories on a New Year and Christmas theme; 3D model of a jewelry or a set of accessories on a New Year and Christmas theme, developed using 2D or 3D graphics.

Participation in the Contest program becomes possible upon submission of an application for participation and works that meet the requirements.

The number of nominations of Contest may change subject to the relevant decision of the organizing committee.

The number of participants from higher education institutions is unlimited. Each contestant has the right to participate in any nomination (including in several at the same time, but with different competition works). Obligatory condition: the submitted works must be exclusive and genuine.

Materials submitted for participation in the Contest must be provided within the deadlines established by the organizing committee.

Participation in the Contest is free.

 

Contest materials and deadlines for their submission to the organizing committee:

  1. 20.10.2025 – 21.11.2025 – processing of applications by the organizing committee and sending of competition works: participants of the Contest must fill out the online registration form Participant questionnaire for the "Suzirya "Kashtan" Contest 2025 and send their video works;
  2. 23.11.2025 – 26.11.2025 – evaluation of works by members of the Contest jury;
  3. 27.11.2025 – summing up the results of the Contest by nominations;
  4. 01.12.2025 – 05.12.2025 – awarding the winners of the Contest, publishing the results on the KNUTD website.

 

All works submitted to the Contest must have a completed appearance, be designed in accordance with the specifics of the chosen direction and execution technique, and represent a holistic and completed author's project.

 

Requirements for video material submitted to the Contest:

No more than 60 seconds.

Video content

1. The video must be concise, not contain unnecessary space or objects that are not part of the competition collection or its addition.

2. The light must be sufficient for a detailed examination of all parts of the collection. The video must not have gaps in light and shadow (gap)*, which may interfere with the examination of the collection.

3. The color reproduction must be natural, without distorting the true shades.

4. The video must be horizontally oriented.

 

*Gap - places in which the texture of the object is not determined due to insufficient or excessive light.

Video identification

The name of the project must be indicated at the beginning of the video.

Resolution

  • Videos must be uploaded in one of the following resolutions:1920х1080
  • 2048х1080
  • 3840х2160
  • 4096х2304
  • 4096х2304 

Video file format

  • Videos must be submitted in one of the following formats:MOV
  • MPG
  • MP4
  • AVI

In order to obtain high-quality video, we recommend using professional transcoding tools, in particular, Adobe Media Encoder.

 

Awarding of Contest Participants

The winners of the Contest are determined based on the results of calculating the total scores of the evaluation questionnaires filled out by the jury members (three prize places) in each nomination of the Contest separately. The jury reserves the right to award from one to three prize places of each degree in each nomination. The prize winners receive corresponding diplomas, and all participants receive certificates for participation in the Contest.
