Within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement of April 18, 2022 with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU, UK), from February 6 to March 4, 2023, our university introduced an online training course "Hotel Operations Tactics and Strategy" (HOTS) from Dr. David Graham, a professor of the said British university.
This event is a certain confirmation of the practical implementation of the agreements between Professor Ivan Gryshchenko, Rector of KNUTD and Professor David Shepherd, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of SHU https://en.knutd.edu.ua/events-and-publications/news/14692/, and is the first step adapting our curricula to British standards, on the way to a double degree.
Students from the Faculty of Cultural and Creative Industries and the Faculty of Management and Business Design take part in the event organized by the Office of International and Project Affairs of KNUTD. Of course, the largest number of representatives are from the Department of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Business studying in the specialties: 241 – “Hotel and Restaurant Business” and 242 – “Tourism”.

The first two lectures and practical sessions aroused great interest among our students (and there were more than 50 of them), and Professor Graham's meaningful presentation and practical recommendations inspired a good mood, sincere emotions and a desire to delve deeper into the details of the HOTS educational game.

“HOTS stands for Hotel Operations Tactics and Strategy. HOTS is a unique dynamic training and development experience for industry, based around a realistic computer exercise that simulates the management of a service business. Participants will develop their knowledge of business strategy, marketing and sales, finance, operations and personnel in developing a business plan and implementing it through a series of decisions over a simulated period of five years.
Simulations are becoming vital in the supplement of practical experience. They allow for the testing of strategies and the reinforcement of conceptual understanding. Through the simulation of realistic business situations, an opportunity is provided to analyze the cause and effect of the decision making process.
The aim of the HOTS package is to highlight key strategic and tactical factors affecting the industry. These will include as examples: The importance of market intelligence for effective investment; Business Interdependencies; working in teams; The importance of complementary products and strategic fit; Marketing in a competitive environment; Planning and budgeting
Microeconomic factors as part of tactical planning; the price and volume relationship; the need to plan, do and review.”
Sincere gratitude to the professors of Dr. David Graham & Dr. Ian Elsmore for agreeing to conduct the educational process for masters and bachelors of our university for free. We look forward to new productive meetings with scientists and teachers of Sheffield Hallam University and look forward to further cooperation!
We look forward to the next classes!
