Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD) is a multidisciplinary educational, scientific and innovative complex with a well-developed infrastructure and modern material and technical base, which provides multi-level training of qualified specialists in various specialties. The university is a leader in training specialists in light and chemical industries, fashion industry, business, artistic and technical modelling and design of industrial products, art, economics and consumer services, law, etc. It is one of the oldest technological institutions of higher education in the country. The University has a number of unique scientific schools that carry out research and innovation activities and are recognized both in Ukraine and abroad.
The date of the beginning of the University’s history is October 1, 1930, when the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute of Leather Industry and the Kyiv Textile Institute were opened. In May 1944, these Institutes were merged and named the Kyiv Technological Institute of Light Industry. Studies of the origins of professional training show that it can actually be dated back to the early nineteenth century, when vocational training for artisans who made leather, fur, and textile goods in artisanal and cooperative ways was launched. However, this topic still awaits thorough research.
